Week 3 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2024 Fantasy Football)

Week 3 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups (2024 Fantasy Football)

Week 2 is now in the books. There are numerous storylines to track, but perhaps the most significant is the overlooked IDP players who showed out in Week 2. There were a lot of defensive fireworks in Week 2, so there are more than a few intriguing names on the waiver wire in leagues of all sizes. Let’s take a look at some of the names that may be worth some of your free agent budget.

Week 3 IDP Waiver Wire

Linebacker

Blake Cashman (LB – MIN): 2% rostered on Yahoo
Cashman went off in Week 2, tallying five solos, eight assists, one sack, one tackle for loss, and three passes defended. He’s now up to nine solos and 10 assists through two games, putting him squarely in the LB2 mix going forward. This, of course, was the expectation after he got tapped with defensive playcalling duties over Ivan Pace, but a quieter game against an easy opponent in Week 1 led to some floor concerns. Treat him as a top-25 option for a Week 3 revenge game against the Houston Texans. Cashman should be rostered in all competitive leagues.

Henry To’oTo’o (LB – HOU): 1% rostered on Yahoo
To’oTo’o is making the most of Christian Harris’ absence, forcing his way into the LB2 conversation. He was excellent in Week 2, racking up nine solos, four assists, one sack, and one tackle for loss against the Chicago Bears. Henry should be rostered in all competitive leagues.

David Long (LB – MIA): 2% rostered on Yahoo
Long was excellent again in Week 2, tallying nine solos, two assists, and two tackles for loss. He has been out-producing and outsnapping Jordyn Brooks and is the linebacker to roster from Miami. He has pushed himself into the top-25 conversation after his most recent performance and should be treated as such for a plus Week 3 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Add and start him where needed.

Jamien Sherwood (LB – NYJ): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Sherwood shined in Week 2, racking up eight solos, four assists, one tackle for loss, and one pass defended on 82 percent of the snaps. Mosley left the game with a toe injury and, with a short turnaround before Thursday Night Football, is unlikely to play after being listed as a DNP on Monday’s estimated practice report. Sherwood is a shrewd deep league add for those looking for some Week 3 LB3 help. Make the add where needed.

Josey Jewell (LB – CAR): 4% rostered on Yahoo
The Jewell we expected showed up in Week 2, racking up eight solos, three assists, and one fumble recovered. Shaq Thompson and Jewell are both essentially playing every down roles for Carolina, so both project as starter-worthy going forward. Treat Jewell as an LB3 with LB2 upside for a plus Week 3 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Make the add where needed.

Denzel Perryman (LB – HOU): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Perryman was solid in Week 2, registering five solos, two assists, one sack, and one tackle for loss. He has been solid to start the season but has drifted from the LB2 realm to LB3 territory, at least for now. Still, he is worth an add in leagues of all sizes as he will continue to get all the snaps he can handle with Christian Harris sidelined. Make the add where needed.

Defensive Line

Odafe Oweh (DE/LB – BAL): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Odafe showed up in Week 2, notching four solos, one assist, 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. Oweh is staying busy in the solo department and is now up to seven over two games. He should easily hit a new career high for sacks this season and should be viewed as a DL3 option going forward. Treat him as such for a plus Week 3 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Make the add where needed.

Pat Jones (DE/LB – MIN): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Jones went off for the second straight week, notching two sacks in consecutive games. He tallied two solos, three assists, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and one forced fumble against Brock Purdy and the 49ers. Jones is playing under 50 percent of the snaps but could get some more burn if Dallas Turner misses extended time. Still, Jones is worth a look in deeper formats as a depth piece who could be thrust into the pass rushing role if he can keep providing splash plays for Brian Flores’ defense. Add him as a DL4/bye week piece who can double as a DL3 in 16+ team formats.

Harold Landry (DE/LB – TEN): 3% rostered on Yahoo
Landry showed up again in Week 2, recording two solos, one assist, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and two passes defended. Now up to three sacks on the season, Landry should be treated as a DL3 with DL2 upside for a plus matchup against former teammate Malik Willis and the Green Bay Packers. Add and start Landry where feasible.

Will McDonald (DE – NYJ): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Will McDonald went off in Week 2, exploding for four solos, three sacks, three tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. McDonald looks set to be thrust into a near every down role due to the injury to Jermaine Jonson and the Jets’ asinine stance on not paying a player they were only able to acquire because his former team did not want to pay him. McDonald will not have cake matchups like this every week but does have the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos on tap as his next two opponents. Treat him as a potential top-30 option for those two matchups. Make the add in all competitive 11 v 11 leagues.

Jonah Elliss (DE/LB – DEN): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Elliss showed up in Week 2, tallying three solos, one sack, and two tackles for loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is not playing enough snaps to be anything more than a depth stash, especially with two solid and healthy starters ahead of him in Baron Browning and Jonathan Cooper, but he should see his role expanded after his performance. Jonah saw 31 and 36 percent of the snaps in Week 1 and Week 2, respectively, and should creep closer to 50 percent if he can continue to produce. Regardless, he has put himself on the bye week filler/depth radar and is a must add in any dynasty league he may have been dropped in after recording zero counting stats in Week 1.

Defensive Back

Jason Pinnock (S – NYG): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Pinnock was excellent in Week 2, racking up eight solos, one assist, two sacks, and two tackles for loss. Pinnock is capable of splash plays and proved that he can produce at a steady DB2 level when on the field. Treat him as such for a plus Week 3 matchup against the Cleveland Browns. Make the add where needed.

Nick Cross (S – IND): 5% rostered on Yahoo
Cross was impressive again in Week 2, tallying 10 solos and five assists against the Green Bay Packers. He has produced like a DB1 through two games and should be treated as a DB2 option until he cools down. Treat him as just that for a tasty Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears.

Damar Hamlin (S – BUF): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Hamlin was excellent in Week 2, posting eight solos, two assists, and one tackle for loss. He is locked in as the starter over rookie Cole Bishop, and his strong play through two weeks suggests that he is in zero danger of ceding any meaningful snaps for the time being. If you do decide to make the add, do so, remembering that Bishop is a concern but that Hamlin should be staying for the foreseeable future, if not for the rest of the season. Add and start Hamlin as a DB3 option for a plus week 3 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Grant Delpit (S – CLE): 5% rostered on Yahoo
Delpit was solid in Week 2, racking up five solos, one assist, and two tackles for loss. This is more in line with what we expect from Delpit, and he should have another strong outing in Week 3 against the New York Giants. Treat him as a top-20 option for the plus matchup. Delpit should be rostered in all competitive leagues.

Tyrann Mathieu (S – NO): 4% rostered on Yahoo
Tyrann left Week 2’s matchup with cramps but still managed to post DB2 numbers, recording three solos, one interception, and two passes defended. He has seemingly turned back the clock through the first two weeks of the season and should be treated as a DB2 option until he cools down. Tyrann should be rostered in all competitive leagues.
