2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Elic Ayomanor

Elic Ayomanor (WR – Stanford)

6-foot-2 | 210 Pounds

Background

A three-star recruit who redshirted in 2022, Elic Ayomanor then took over a starting role in the second week of the following season, finishing the year with 63-1,022-6 (16.2). Had a similar season this past year, with a line of 63-831-6 (13.2) before declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Positives

Productive two-year starter who’s been an effective volume receiver at times. Big, well-built split end with a strong frame; also takes some snaps as an inside receiver at times. Primarily a downfield target, but also works underneath off-coverage on curls, hitches and other patterns of that nature, with some over routes mixed in. When releasing at the line against press coverage, shows off better suddenness than expected for someone of his size.

Does a nice job of winning inside leverage on routes breaking over the middle of the field. Despite his lack of ideal speed, Ayomanor knows how to use tempo changes to lull defenders, and stacks effectively with his frame, allowing him to function as a deep threat. Presents a wide catch radius. His ability to adjust to throws and come down with the occasional spectacular catch is a big part of his reputation as a prospect. Aggressively climbs the ladder to high-point throws. Flashes the body control to come down with back-shoulder throws. Competes for yards after contact to finish plays. Willing blocker with the frame and strength to develop into a quality stalker as he develops.

Negatives

Not the most consistent producer on a game-to-game basis, with significant chunks of his output coming in a handful of games. Lacks ideal speed and explosiveness off the line of scrimmage. Can sometimes get stuck at the line against physical opponents because of the lack of variety in his releases. Settles into coverage at times when working against zone coverage. Can make some highlight-reel catches, but is also guilty of the occasional focus drop, having recorded six in each of the past two seasons.

Despite his size and strength, Ayomanor has caught just under half of his contested catches in each season — exactly 14/29 in both 2023 and 2024, per Pro Football Focus (PFF). Not particularly dynamic after the catch; doesn’t make too many defenders miss, tending to barrel into opponents for a couple of extra yards. Competitive as a blocker, but can struggle to line up opponents in space, and his technique could use more consistency in terms of balance and hand placement. Has an awkward stance and his hands are often outside, which could lead to flags at the next level. Natural pick plays aren’t subtle.

Summary

A big possession receiver who does a better job of stacking defenders than you’d expect, using tempo changes and nuance well to present his quarterback with opportunities to make big plays downfield.

Ayomanor put himself on the map with a huge game against Colorado as a redshirt freshman. Had a similarly productive sophomore campaign, but there are still elements of his game that need ironing out, especially blocking and focus.

Currently looks like he’ll be coming off the board on the second day. Would be best to play with a confident quarterback who’s willing to give him chances in coverage downfield.

Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona)

A very big, smooth, savvy receiver with an incredible catch radius and a graceful game, McMillan established himself as one of the best wide receivers in college football over the past two seasons. May never be the fastest or most explosive wide receiver, but has a great understanding of how to use tempo, nuance and technique to create separation.

Is capable of coming down with contested catches even in tight coverage, with rare size that makes him a mismatch for most cornerbacks. May not have quite the same strength and physicality as Mike Evans did coming out, but is a similar prospect and should go similarly high in the first round, likely within the first five or 10 picks.

Luther Burden III (Missouri)

A dynamic player with the ball in his hands, Burden’s combination of speed, quickness, vision, balance and physicality led the Tigers to scheme up ways to get him the ball, whether on underneath throws, sweeps, screens or otherwise. He also offers some impressive traits as a receiver, with good stop-start quickness to create separation, impressive tracking and body control and a strong pair of hands.

As it currently stands, he doesn’t have a ton of recent experience playing outside and will need to continue diversifying his route tree and polishing his route-running technique, but that doesn’t look like it will stop him from being a first-round pick.

Projection: Round 1

Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State)

Another highly-polished Buckeyes receiver prospect, Egbuka’s excellent combination of acceleration, quickness, route-running savvy, hands and toughness should make him a highly reliable pro receiver.

Likely would have been a first-round pick last year had he stayed healthy. Coming back to put together the season he did gives him a very good chance of going there this year if everything checks out medically during the pre-draft process. A nice reliable, pro-ready big slot option.
