2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa (LB – Oregon)
6-foot-2 | 230 Pounds
Background
Jeffrey Bassa has been a major contributor ever since arriving on campus, with 452 snaps as a freshman and a 48-3.0-1.0 line. Saw his role expand a bit and finished with 62-4.0-2.0 the following year. Posted lines of 72-4.0-0.0 and 54-3.0-1.5 over the past two seasons to conclude his collegiate career.
Positives
A productive four-year contributor who cleaned up his tackling and showed improvement over the past two seasons. Well-built linebacker who looks the part, with good musculature and length. Disciplined in his run fits, showing good patience and commitment.
Able to take on blocks between the tackles, with a stable base and good extension. Also asked to line up on the edge a little bit, showing the ability to hold the point and funnel runners back inside. Shows the ability to locate while engaged, with some heaviness in his hands to disengage.
Gives adequate effort in pursuit. Length gives him a wide radius. Bassa has developed into a reliable tackler over the past two seasons, with some nice open-field tackles when pursuing lateral rushing attempts. Coverage responsibilities were pretty challenging; was asked (and is able) to shade over the slot and pattern-match against three-by-one.
Flips his hips pretty well and has the speed and length to carry tight ends down the seams. Appears to have some potential as a blitzer because of his physical/athletic tools.
Negatives
Would like to see him trust his instincts more and play with a bit more decisiveness; comes from a team that has a relatively patient, conservative defensive approach up front, but doesn’t make a lot of plays in the backfield.
Bassa may not be quite fast enough to function as a true sideline-to-sideline player; needs to take some pretty conservative angles at times when getting out toward the boundaries. Would like to see him get more depth in zone drops to keep things in front of him.
Struggles to get his head around and locate when defending seam routes and his back is to the ball. Doesn’t seem to have the most natural feel for timing his blitzes.
Summary
An experienced linebacker who has the length and power to take on blocks between the tackles, with a disciplined and patient approach that limits false steps. Bassa plays bigger than his listed size and has enough juice to stay on the field on some passing downs, so teams looking for a relatively safe and reliable linebacker could give him looks on the second day in a relatively thin class.
May not be the splashiest player in the class, but also doesn’t require a ton of projection to imagine playing at the next level, which is relatively rare for modern linebacker prospects.
Projection: Round 3/Round 4
