2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams (OT – Texas)
6-foot-5 | 335 Pounds
Background
Texas local and three-star recruit. Cameron Williams played relatively sparingly over his first two seasons (one start, 149 total snaps) before taking over the starting right tackle job this season opposite Kelvin Banks Jr., allowing five sacks on the year.
Positives
Massive right tackle with a thick frame and plenty of natural power. Short-area quickness is very good for his size. Works hard through the whistle and is capable of executing challenging zone concepts; stamina and conditioning are good for such a big tackle. Sticks with opponents effectively on outside zone/stretch plays. Can climb up to the second level on rushing attempts or get out in space and disrupt defenders in the screen game.
Williams has the power in his hands to jolt opponents and knock them off-balance, with a nice killer instinct to finish when he’s given the chance. Solid grip strength to sustain, with generally good hand placement and the ability to reset. Doesn’t panic when defending the edge against speed, with better lateral mobility than his size would suggest and the ability to maintain his kick slide technique to protect the edge.
Usually does a good job of keeping a sufficiently wide base and staying light on his feet. Able to reset and pivot back to avoid getting too much depth and surrendering the inside. Generally drops a solid anchor when he’s working with a base.
Negatives
Williams is entering the draft with only a year of starting experience, and it shows in some of his techniques. For a player whose height is closer to the average for the position (and would be considered short if he came in under that), tends to play with a somewhat high pad level. Has some jerky/stilted movements in his kick slide; can play off of his heels too much, negating some of his natural power and surrendering more ground than someone as big as him should.
Tends to lower his head into context. Lapses into being a leaner at times. Penalty magnet who was flagged 17 times (one declined.) Will probably be considered more of a right-tackle-only on the outside, although some teams could consider him at guard depending on his measurements.
Summary
An interesting tackle prospect with an impressive combination of bulk, power, nastiness and short-area quickness, Williams still has to clean up some aspects of his technique to reach his potential, most notably in terms of his overall footwork, leverage and balance.
Williams has a pretty rare set of starting-level traits at a premium position, so it’s hard to imagine him falling too far if he declares this year, although recent memories of raw tackles like Broderick Jones could give some teams picking in the first round cause for concern.
Projection: Round 2
