2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: LeQuint Allen Jr.

LeQuint Allen Jr. (RB – Syracuse)

6-foot-0 | 201 Pounds

Background

LeQuint Allen Jr. was a three-star recruit who played lightly as a freshman in 2022, finishing with a rushing line 41-274-1 of and a receiving line of 17-117-1. Stepped into the starting role the following year after successfully overturning what was originally a season-long suspension for an arrest resulting from a campus fight. Finished the season with a 245-1,069-9 (4.4) rushing line and a 38-210-1 receiving receiving line. Had a 2024 campaign of 228-1,023-16 (4.5) on the ground and 64-521-4 receiving to conclude his collegiate career.

Positives

Allen was a productive two-year starter with escalating year-to-year output in a balanced offensive scheme. A big-framed runner with a frame to accommodate more weight. Smooth accelerator who is fast enough to win the edge on outside rushing concepts or even to bounce runs outside when lanes between the tackles aren’t open. Allen is a bendy runner who doesn’t need to shift down when turning the corner.

Shows a nice burst upfield when he finds a lane. Flashes the ability to make defenders miss in a phone booth. Overall flexibility is good. Ball security has been solid, with just four career fumbles on 514 carries. Has been a very productive receiver, with just four career drops; shows some pretty good snap at the stem. Syracuse tried to get him the ball and let him create in the passing game on designed screens, motion releases into the flats, etc. He is a shifty player who can weave through lanes in space. Speed and acceleration make him a threat on wheel routes down the sidelines.

Can improvise and create opportunities when the play breaks down. Presents his quarterback with a big target, as he shows good body control and natural hands-catching ability to bring in throws away from his frame. Retained in pass protection more often than usual.

Negatives

Looks a bit taller and thinner than ideal for a running back. Allen has some tendencies to bounce runs outside and looks more comfortable as an east-west runner on off-tackle runs, sweeps, tosses and options than he does when asked to function as a hammer between the tackles.

His pad level tends to be a little bit high, undermining his power and exposing his body to hits. Not the most dominant, imposing runner. Can struggle to push the pile and convert in short-yardage situations. Doesn’t consistently make the first man miss in space.

Lacks ideal awareness and, perhaps, more importantly, (and definitely more noticeably), physicality in blitz pickup. Occasionally soft blocker who turns down opportunities to chip or engage rushers, at times seeming much more interested in getting to his route than doing the dirty work. Much more likely to throw a shoulder than to engage with form.

Summary

A two-year starter with impressive burst, acceleration and natural receiving skills, Allen has been dangerous in space over the past two seasons, with some shiftiness to his game. At the same time, he doesn’t run with a lot of violence or power between the tackles. His blocking looks soft at times, turning down opportunities to stick his nose in and engage with form. Outside rushing and receiving ability will likely get him looks at some point on Day 3

Ashton Jeanty (Boise State)

Jeanty proved he’s the total package this past season, with an unbelievable combination of vision, patience, creativity, agility, power, balance and speed that nearly allowed him to break Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record.

Can fit in any offensive scheme, but might be best in a scheme that runs a relatively high amount of outside zone to maximize his home-run hitting ability. After a year in which he dazzled viewers with a nonstop succession of dominant highlights, Jeanty should be a lock for the first round, potentially going in the top half of the frame. Projects as a long-term, every-down feature back who should make an immediate impact.

Projection: Round 1

Cam Skattebo (Arizona State)

Skattebo was one of the most productive and exciting players in college football this past season. He combined a natural feel for the position, smooth running skills, a tough and physical temperament and exceptional contact balance, culminating in well over 2,000 total yards on the season.

There’s not a whole lot to critique about his game, besides his lack of ideal explosiveness and long speed. Otherwise, Skattebo has the look of a potential every-down back in the league or at least the power back in a one-two punch. Could get some second-day looks.

Projection: Round 3/Round 4

Devin Neal (Kansas)

A fast, agile back with good burst and excellent open-field running skills, Neal functioned as a workhorse for the Jayhawks but might be more of a change-of-pace back at the next level, as he may struggle to grind out tough yardage between the tackles as a pro.

Neal’s snaps were relatively balanced throughout his career (more gap until this past season, then a little bit more zone), but might be better suited to a zone-blocking scheme where he’s able to stretch defenses out and cut upfield when he sees daylight. Probably more of a mid-round option.

Projection: Round 5
