2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo (OT – Boston College)
6-foot-8 | 309 Pounds
Background
Ozzy Trapilo’s father Steve also attended Boston College and spent some time with the Saints and Patriots in the NFL. The younger Trapilo was a four-star recruit and Boston native who redshirted in 2020 and then started two games at guard the following year (one on the left, one on the right.)
Trapilo took over as the team’s starting left tackle in 2022 (all 10 games he appeared in), during which time he allowed five sacks. Flipped over to the right side the following year, making 12 starts without allowing a sack (left the Virginia game early and returned for the Georgia Tech game.) Reprised that role this year for another 12 starts, allowing two sacks to conclude his college career.
Positives
Trapilo is a massive tackle with pro bloodlines and 36 career starts between four positions (34 at tackle), spending this past season in a pro-style system. Plays the game with the temperament teams like to see. He’s a tough, nasty player who works hard through the whistle. Shows a good understanding of positioning to wall off opponents, with enough short-area quickness to cross a defender’s face or chip and climb. Very functionally strong.
Does a nice job of getting his feet moving after contact to generate push. Able to block down on the outside shoulder to seal the edge. Was asked to execute some pretty difficult blocks in space and shows a good motor and adequate athleticism for such a big tackle. Reasonably efficient mover up to the second level to successfully engage linebackers. Pass sets look technically sound, with some knee bend, a sufficiently wide base and a straight back. Keeps his head on a swivel in pass protection.
Fires out his punch proactively and has enough power to jolt opponents. Gets good extension to keep defenders out of his pads, and drops an early anchor against power. Wasn’t flagged this year, and was only called for five career penalties.
Negatives
As a taller tackle, has some issues with his natural pad level at times. More of a repeated shover. Would be nice to see him lock onto the chest straps and sustain through the whistle more consistently. Can get too aggressive, leading to issues with his overall balance, impacting his ability to sustain blocks. Tends to lunge or duck his head into contact as he plays in space.
Trapilo doesn’t have the most lateral quickness as a pass protector. Looks a bit stiff and lacks ideal agility to pivot back and recover when dealing with delayed blitzes or stunts. Might be limited to right tackle, as he may be seen as too tall to play guard and not agile enough to play left tackle.
Summary
A big, nasty tackle with impressive strength, a good understanding of positioning and an impressive motor in space, Trapilo can create movement in a phone booth in the run game and absorb power in pass protection.
Trapilo’s future as a pro is likely as a gap-scheme right tackle, owing to his specific physical/athletic profile, probably on a team that prioritizes establishing a smashmouth identity. His bloodlines, extensive experience and time in Bill O’Brien’s pro-style offense this past season will work in his favor. Could slip to the mid-rounds.
Projection: Round 3/Round 4
