While the 2025 fantasy football redraft season is still months away, FantasyPros already has rankings up. One of FantasyPros’ awesome features is the standard deviation tool that gives fantasy players an idea of how much of a consensus there is among the experts regarding a certain player.
Today, I look at six running backs with a higher standard deviation, examine the argument or reasoning behind the disagreement among the experts, and give my opinion on whether the player is ranked too high or too low in the rankings.

Most Polarizing Running Backs
Ashton Jeanty (Boise State) – RB16 | 4.1 STD. DEV
Where Jeanty lands during the NFL Draft will have a significant impact on his fantasy outlook. If he is the featured guy for the Dallas Cowboys, Jeanty will be a late first-round pick. However, the former Boise State star will see his fantasy value tank if he lands with the New York Jets. Jeanty had a historical 2024 season, leading the country with 374 rushing attempts for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns, averaging seven yards per attempt. I’m all in on him pending his landing spot in the NFL Draft.
Nick Chubb (CLE) – RB37 | 4.8 STD. DEV
Unfortunately, the past two years have severely crushed Chubb’s fantasy outlook. The veteran suffered a gruesome knee injury early in the 2023 season, forcing him to miss 21 games over the past two years. He played in eight contests last season, missing the final three because of a broken foot. Chubb struggled when healthy last year, averaging 3.3 yards per rushing attempt and 7.6 half-point PPR fantasy points per game, scoring more than 5.2 only when finding the end zone. Sadly, I have no interest in drafting Chubb in 2025.
Javonte Williams (DEN) – RB38 | 4.5 STD. DEV
Denver’s backfield was a fantasy nightmare last season. Williams led the way, finishing the year as the RB31, averaging 7.9 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Unfortunately, the veteran running back scored more than 9.4 fantasy points in only three contests. Furthermore, Williams had six games totaling 3.3 or fewer fantasy points. The former North Carolina star is a free agent this offseason and unlikely to re-sign with the Broncos. Williams will be on my do-not-draft list unless he lands in Chicago with Ben Johnson as his new David Montgomery.
Jerome Ford (CLE) – RB42 | 4.8 STD. DEV
Many will want to avoid Cleveland’s offense like the plague next season. However, Ford could have sneaky fantasy value in the final year of his rookie deal. Nick Chubb is an upcoming free agent and unlikely to return, making Ford the early favorite to start next season. The Browns probably won’t invest significant draft capital at running back as they head into another rebuilding project. Ford was productive in 2023, with Chubb missing most of the year, finishing as the RB17, averaging 11.1 half-point PPR fantasy points per game.
Jordan Mason (SF) – RB45 | 6.0 STD. DEV
Hopefully, Christian McCaffrey can stay healthy after missing 13 games last season. Mason is a restricted free agent this offseason, meaning he will likely be back in San Francisco next year. Yet, he isn’t the 49ers running back I will draft as McCaffrey’s handcuff in 2025. Mason started the year on fire, averaging 22.8 rushing attempts for 111.8 yards and 17.9 half-point PPR fantasy points per game over the first month. However, he didn’t have over 90 rushing yards or 8.7 fantasy points in any other game last season.
Isaac Guerendo (SF) – RB51 | 4.9 STD. DEV
Guerendo started his rookie season as the No. 4 running back on the depth chart. However, he was outstanding when given enough volume, averaging 101 scrimmage yards and 16.2 half-point PPR fantasy points per game in the four contests with at least 11 touches. More importantly, Guerendo offers more upside than Jordan Mason in the passing game as Christian McCaffrey’s handcuff. He had 15 receptions on 227 offensive snaps, while Mason had 11 receptions on 378 snaps. Fantasy players should make drafting Guerendo a priority if they select McCaffrey.
