2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Quinshon Judkins

Quinshon Judkins (RB – Ohio State)

6-foot-0 | 219 Pounds

Background

Quinshon Judkins was a three-star recruit who originally attended Ole Miss. He took over the starting running back role from Zach Evans midway through his freshman season, finishing with school records on yards and touchdowns and an outstanding 274-1,567-16 (5.7) line on the ground.

As the full-time starter the following year, rushed 271-1,158-15 (4.3), then transferred to the Buckeyes. Split carries with TreVeyon Henderson this year, ending the season with 183-960-12 (5.2). Has also caught 57 career passes, roughly evenly divided over his career.

Positives

Has been a highly productive three-year contributor in two of college football’s most difficult conferences, and in what have been relatively balanced rushing attacks (aside from Mississippi’s more zone-based offense as a freshman). Big, well-built runner who has stayed healthy despite heavy usage. Has a tough, no-nonsense approach to running between the tackles, with good decisiveness, wasting no time in identifying and hitting the hole.

Does a nice job of getting behind his pads, burrowing forward and driving his legs to grind out tough yards between the tackles on inside attempts. Knee bend is solid. Has a nice feel for navigating through congestion. Size and style are very well-suited to short-yardage/goal line situations — was very effective there during the games reviewed. Clean, crisp footwork allows him to hit the hole quickly on one-cut concepts.

Judkins shows good lateral quickness to make defenders miss against early penetration. Can occasionally salvage something out of nothing. Works the stiff-arm well when he gets to the edge to punish second-level opponents. Runs over defensive backs with ease on big plays. Very rarely gets caught in the backfield for negative yards. Has just three career fumbles on over 700 rushing attempts, indicating excellent ball security. Offers a pretty reliable pair of hands in the receiving game, with three drops against 59 career catches, per Pro Football Focus (PFF).

Negatives

Tread is a bit higher than many of the other top backs in the class. His most productive, efficient year came back in 2022. A good, but not elite athlete. May end up being more of a chunk runner than an explosive home-run hitter at the next level. Passing down value might be somewhat limited.

Wasn’t a particularly high-volume receiver, serving as more of a safety valve/checkdown option. Despite having the size, strength and toughness to work as a blocker, Judkins isn’t there yet, lapsing into throwing a shoulder or lowering his head. Per PFF, he has allowed one sack, three hits and 11 pressures on 178 career snaps in blitz pickup.

Summary

A big, productive three-year contributor for two major programs, he’s shown that he can carry the load when needed, with the vision, decisiveness, power, physicality and toughness to grind out tough yardage between the tackles for consistent gains while protecting the football.

While there’s a relatively high amount of tread on his tires and he might not be the sexiest or most versatile back in the class as far as third-down value is concerned, Judkins should be able to step into a team and contribute early. A nice, safe pick for teams that prefer no-nonsense bulldog-type backs to play smashmouth football with.

Devin Neal (Kansas)

A fast, agile back with good burst and excellent open-field running skills, Neal functioned as a workhorse for the Jayhawks but might be more of a change-of-pace back at the next level, as he may struggle to grind out tough yardage between the tackles as a pro.

Neal’s snaps were relatively balanced throughout his career (more gap until this past season, then a little bit more zone), but might be better suited to a zone-blocking scheme where he’s able to stretch defenses out and cut upfield when he sees daylight. Probably more of a mid-round option.
