Dynasty Rookie Draft Picks

1.12 – RJ Harvey (RB – DEN)

Denver was among the most desirable landing spots for a running back this year, and R.J. Harvey won that lottery when the Broncos selected him in the second round. Harvey is small (5-9, 208) and overaged (24). But holy-moly, what a fun player to watch. Harvey has outstanding quickness and lateral agility. His jump-cuts are something to behold. Harvey also has great vision, quickly discerning where holes are and decisively dashing through them. He’s also a capable pass catcher and a high academic achiever. The production at UCF the last two years was absurd: 42 touchdowns, just under 3,000 rushing yards, and more than 500 receiving yards. Harvey has a good chance to lead the Broncos in carries this season, and running backs in Sean Payton’s offense usually catch a lot of passes. Harvey should be a first-round pick in all rookie drafts.

2.12 – Bhayshul Tuten (RB – JAC)

Jacksonville added to their backfield with the selection of Tuten in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. Travis Etienne is gone after this year, and Tank Bigsby has only two years left on his rookie deal. Tuten could easily be the future of the Jags’ rushing attack. The combine superhero posted strong tackling breaking numbers over the last two years, ranking top-ten in elusive rating in each season (per PFF). He was also tenth in yards after contact per attempt and breakaway percentage last season. It doesn’t take much effort to see that Tuten could be this year’s Bucky Irving, but it also wouldn’t surprise me if Etienne and Bigsby do just enough to hold him off this season, and the true breakout isn’t until 2026. Tuten is a late second-round home run swing in dynasty rookie drafts.

3.12 – Jarquez Hunter (RB – LAR)

Hunter is arbitrage Bhayshul Tuten in rookie drafts. Hunter, much like Tuten, is headed to the NFL (Rams) via the fourth round of the NFL draft. Also, like Tuten, Hunter finds himself possibly buried for 2025 behind two veterans, but he also possesses the talent and pathway to surpass one or maybe both of them in the running back pecking order. Kyren Williams is a free agent after this season. The Rams thought so much of Blake Corum’s rookie season that they addressed running back again this year. Hunter isn’t the same caliber of athlete as Tuten (7.1 RAS), but he did run a 4.44 40-yard dash and finished his collegiate career with an impressive tackle-breaking resume. Hunter has ranked inside the top 24 in yards after contact per attempt in each of the last three seasons while also sitting in the top 22 in breakaway percentage in two of three years (per PFF). Hunter offers the Rams an explosive element that neither Williams nor Corum has. Last year, among 46 qualifying backs, Williams ranked 44th in explosive run rate, 37th in missed tackles forced per attempt, and 40th in yards after contact per attempt (per FantasyPointsData). Hunter is the best running back value on the board in dynasty rookie drafts. He’s consistently available in the third round of dynasty rookie drafts and will occasionally fall into the fourth round. At the end of the second round, I’m looking at the board and figuring out where which pick I need to acquire to secure his services safely.

4.12 – Tahj Brooks (RB – CIN)

After running for more than 1,500 yards and scoring double-digit touchdowns in each of his last two college seasons at Texas Tech, Tahj Brooks now joins the Bengals, who could use him as a complement to 2024 breakout star Chase Brown. The thickly built Brooks has good contact balance and power. He’s also a useful pass catcher and a good pass blocker, so there are multiple ways for Brooks to earn snaps in Cincinnati.

5.12 – Kyle Monangai (RB – CHI)

It seemed inevitable that the Bears would spend an early-round pick on a running back this year, but they waited until the seventh round before finally taking one: Kyle Monangai of Rutgers. If only the 5-9, 209-pound Kyle Monangai were a little bigger or a little faster. He’s an absolute warrior who runs like he’s 6-1, 225. Monangai ran for more than 1,200 yards in each of his final two seasons at Rutgers. He has terrific vision and instincts, and he’s a fighter who doesn’t go down easily. Despite his smaller frame, the lion-hearted Monangai will lower his shoulder and try to barrel over a tackler. He’s always falling forward at the end of runs. If Monangai were a prolific pass catcher, it would be easier to overlook his lack of size. Unfortunately, he had only 38 catches in 52 college games. There’s a chance he could carve out a role in Chicago, but it’s also possible the Bears will sign a veteran such as Nick Chubb or J.K. Dobbins, which would make it hard for Monangai to get on the field as a rookie.
