Fantasy Baseball Prospect Report
I won’t hit on every prospect every week, but will focus on the most relevant prospects throughout the week and will follow up with other notable players. This article will not focus on any AAAA-type players or veterans in the Minors who have outlived their prospect status.
NOTE: Rookie status is determined by 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched at the Major League level. All stats are up-to-date as of Sunday, August 17th.
Full Top 150 Prospect Rankings:
MLB Hitters:
- OF Colby Thomas (Athletics)
2024 AA/AAA: .277/.342/.563 | 7 BB%, 24.7 K% | 80 XBH, 31 HR, 15 SB
2025 AAA: .291/.366/.529 | 8.3 BB%, 26.8 K% | 41 XBH, 18 HR, 7 SB
2025 MLB: .255/.302/.447 | 5.7 BB%, 43.4 K% | 5 XBH, 2 HR, 2 SB
This Week: 7/15 | 2 XBH, 1 HR, 1 SB
Age: 24
ETA: in MLB
fScores (pre-season): 95 fContact, 58 fDiscipline, 124 fPower, 106 fSpeed
Comp: Taylor Ward and Adolis Garcia mash
Prime Skills: Thomas has all fields power and does a great job of shooting the ball through the gaps and has an over 27% line drive rate in 2024. He has an open stance with hands up, loaded pre-pitch. He’s an extra base hit machine and may run into some strikeout issues, but has improved his hit tool since last season with a 73% contact rate and 84% Z-contact rate, improvements of nearly 6-7% from last season.
Player Notes: Colby Thomas is beginning to heat up after a ton of strikeouts upon his initial call up.
MLB Pitchers:
- SP Nolan McLean (Mets):
2024 CPX/A+: 76 IP | 21.2 K-BB%, 15.8 SwStr%, 32 CSW% | 2.84 ERA, 1.04 WHIP
2025 AA/AAA: 113 2/3 IP | 16.5 K-BB%, 12 SwStr%, 29.2 CSW% | 2.45 ERA, 1.13 WHIP
This Week (MLB): 5 1/3 IP | 8 Ks, 4 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP
Age: 23
ETA: Mid 2026
fScores: N/A
Comp: Tanner Bibee / Luis Severino mash
Prime Skills: McLean is focusing on pitching for the first year of his minor league career and we are seeing an uptick in the effectiveness of his stuff. His arsenal includes a mediocre mid 90s fastball (that tops out at 98), an elite late breaking sweeper with a unique hard cut at the tail end of the pitch with a fantastic sinker that sits in the mid 90s and has a 17.4% SwStr% in AAA along with an 88-90 mph cutter, an 85-88 mph changeup and a low 80s curve he will drop in every now and then.
Player Notes: McLean as expected, showed off his deep arsenal that lead to a fun start, but he also gave up a fair amount of walks.
AAA Hitters:
- SS JJ Wetherholt (Cardinals)
2024 College: .331/.472/.589 | 16 XBH, 8 HR, 6 SB (36 games)
2024 A: .295/.405/.400 | 12.7 BB%, 11.9 K% | 7 XBH, 2 HR, 2 SB (29 games)
2025 AA/AAA (as of 8/16/25): .299/.417/.519 | 15.1 BB%, 15.1 K% | 37 XBH, 15 HR, 17 SB
This Week: 5/20 | 4 XBH, 3 HR, 1 SB
Age: 22
ETA: Early 2026
fScores: 102 fContact, 128 fDiscipline, 86 fPower, 136 fSpeed
Comp: Corbin Carroll / Marcus Semien mash-up
Prime Skills: Wetherholt hits the crap out of the ball for a smaller guy, is athletic and has a great eye at the plate. He has quick, an easy swing and great bat control that will likely lead to an early career high doubles profile that later translates into more power as he gets closer to his peak. Wetherholt had an average EV of 91.8 last season to go along with an aggressively effective approach in the zone with a 73.4 Z-Swing % and only 14.1% chase rate to pair with an 86% contact rate this season in AA and no splits concerns as a lefty.
Player Notes: Wetherholt has hit two lead off bombs in the last three games, he’s ready for the bigs, but the Cardinals need to figure out their roster cluster first – as I had mentioned a number of times the last month or so while everyone else was clambering for a call up. The Cardinals have already mentioned he will not be called up this year.
- 2B/3B Sal Stewart (Reds)
2024 A+: .279/.391/.454 | 14.8 BB%, 16.9 K% | 32 XBH, 8 HR, 10 SB (80 games)
2025 AA (as of 8/16/25): .311/.381/.514 | 8.7 BB%, 15.1 K% | 47 XBH, 16 HR, 16 SB
This Week: 7/19 | 5 XBH, 2 HR, 0 SB
Age: 21
ETA: Mid 2026
fScores: N/A
Comp: Spencer Steer and Nicholas Castellanos mash with Juan Yepez mechanics
Prime Skills: Big dude who should develop more power, but for now has a fantastic plate approach and hit tool for his age. This is a guy I got a live look on and I think he’s going to be a dude. He might end up moving off the position, because he’s a big boy. He has a good hit tool (81% contact), great plate skills and low 20s home run power potential.
Player Notes: Stewart is a doubles machine and has made this list so many times this year, I can’t keep count.
C Jeferson Quero (Brewers):
Season: .294/.384/.518 | 11.1 BB% / 13.1 K% | 20 XBH, 9 HR, 2 SB
This Week: 5/14 | 3 XBH, 2 HR, 0 SB
Notes: Quero finally appears healthy after missing all of 2024 and missing a good chunk of 2025.
OF Nathan Church (Cardinals):
Season: .327/.384/.522 | 8.4 BB% / 9.5 K% | 36 XBH, 13 HR, 15 SB
This Week: 7/21 | 4 XBH, 1 HR, 0 SB
Notes: Church is one of the most underrated prospects in baseball and will be a top 150 player in my next update.
OF Tirso Ornelas (Padres):
Season: .295/.385/.440 | 11.7 BB% / 17.6 K% | 20 XBH, 5 HR, 6 SB (53 games)
This Week: 6/16 | 5 XBH, 2 HR, 0 SB
Notes: Talk about underrated prospects, I thought Ornelas was going to play the majority of the year in the majors – I was wrong, but he has been very solid this season.
AAA Pitchers:
- SP Robby Snelling (Marlins)
2024 AA/AAA: 115 1/3 IP | 13.8 K-BB%, 12.2 SwStr%, 28.9 CSW% | 5.15 ERA, 1.52 WHIP
2025 AA/AAA (as of 8/17/25): 106 IP | 23 K-BB%, 13.2 SwStr%, 30.4 CSW% | 2.89 ERA, 1.13 WHIP
This Week: 6 IP | 9 Ks, 2 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.83 WHIP
Age: 21
ETA: Late 2025
fScores: 102 fStuff, 97 fControl, fERA 107
Comp: Jesus Luzardo-light
Prime Skills: The ¾ arm-slot helps create a lot of deception between his fastball and slider, which he repurposed this year and also improved the change up. He’s a three pitch lefty with an above average fastball, a good changeup and a stellar breaking pitch with a knack for avoiding hard contact. Snelling was only hitting 93 on the fastball last year and it up to 95-97 this year, we forget how young he was in 2023 when he first broke out. His change up is also up a couple ticks from 86 mph last year to 88-89 this year. The slider is up to an average of about 83 MPH and that’s what the majority of his Ks seem to come on, but he does have some issues in a reverse split against lefties oddly enough this year.
Player Notes: Surprise, surprise – another week, another stellar start for Robby Snelling.
- SP Jonah Tong (Mets)
2024 A/A+/AA: 113 IP | 24.1 K-BB%, 14.9 SwStr%, 31.1 CSW | 3.03 ERA, 1.17 WHIP
2025 AA (as of 8/16/25): 102 IP | 29.7 K-BB%, 16.7 SwStr%, 34.4 CSW | 1.59 ERA, 0.92 WHIP
This Week: 5 ⅔ IP | 9 Ks, 2 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP
Age: 21
ETA: Mid 2026
fScore: 103 fStuff, 88 fControl, 118 fERA
Comp: Jared Jones light
Prime Skills: Tong has some tricky IVB on a sinking mid 90s fastball (hitting 95-96 MPH now), a big curve that drops right in on hitters from a high over the top arm slot from a smaller 6’ 1”, 180 pound frame. He also pairs these with a decent back pocket change up and a hard vertical slider to bridge between the fastball and curve. The command was on early in the year, but it seems to come and go with Tong.
Player Notes: Tong made his AAA debut this week and dominated, as per the norm. My only concerns with Tong at this point are that he does not have a killer east/west pitch and that he has a smaller build with a high effort, over the top delivery that could lead to a shoulder injury down the line.
AA Hitters:
- 2B / SS Kevin McGonigle (Tigers)
2024 A/A+: .309/.401/.452 | 14 BB%, 8.5 K% | 25 XBH, 5 HR, 22 SB (74 games)
2025 Season (as of 8/17/25): .336/.430/.605 | 42 XBH, 12 HR, 7 SB
This Week: 6/15 | 4 XBH, 3 HR, 1 SB
Age: 20
ETA: Late 2026
fScores: N/A
Comp: Chase Utley wannabe (w/ less power and more speed), a bit of a Steven Kwan profile in the middle infield
Prime Skills: This kid has an insane hit tool, running only an 83% contact rate in the small sample size this year, he also has a 91% Z-Contact on the short season. It’s a small sample size, but the average EV is up at 93.8, while the 90th is still below 104 and the max is under 108, so even with a large focus this offseason on building power, he may just be a plus doubles guy with speed.
Player Notes: McGonigle is top 5 in my next rankings update, I don’t want to give away where though – you’ll have to tune in to find out!
- SS Cooper Pratt (Brewers)
2024 A/A+: .277/.362/.406 | 10.3 BB%, 20 K% | 26 XBH, 8 HR, 27 SB (96 games)
2025 AA (as of 8/16/25): .241/.343/.349 | 12.4 BB%, 15.4 K% | 25 XBH, 7 HR, 25 SB
This Week: 7/21 | 2 XBH, 2 HR, 1 SB
Age: 20
ETA: 2027
fScores: N/A
Comp: Giant Ha-Seong Kim
Prime Skills: Pratt is a huge athletic SS that is far away as a high school guy, but has five-tool potential, especially due to his size. He hit for more power in high A, which was my biggest concern even despite the size and I would ignore some of the batting average worries at the level as he was running a low BABIP in the 23 game sample size there. He has a long, exaggerated leg kick in his swing that I’m not a fan of, but the longer levers have not been an issue on his ability to get to the ball.
Player Notes: I’ve been waiting for Pratt to come into more power, but he’s still young for the level and we should give him some time over the next year to develop before pushing him down based on his season totals.
- OF Ryan Waldschmidt (Diamondbacks)
2024 College: .333/.469/.610 | 31 XBH, 14 HR, 25 SB
2024 A: .273/.485/.318 | 22.7 BB%, 13.6 K% | 2 XBH, 0 HR, 4 SB
2025 A+/AA (as of 8/16/25): .268/.408/.443 | 16.6 BB%, 18.2 K% | 38 XBH, 13 HR, 23 SB
This Week: 8/13 | 4 XBH, 3 HR, 2 SB
Age: 22
ETA: Mid 2026
fScores: N/A
Comp: Righty Lars Nootbaar
Prime Skills: Big OF who can play in CF and has great plate skills with an above average hit tool to pair with a solid power and speed combo. He hits the crap out of the ball and had some of the highest exit velocities in the 2024 draft. Waldschmidt is a little overly passive for someone who has some insane tools statcast wise (ala Lars Nootbaar) with a low 34.7% swing rate, but does have a plus hit tool (80% contact rate), plate skills, power and speed.
Player Notes: Waldschmidt has gone through some adjustment periods at certain levels and seems to be locking down AA with a strong couple of weeks.
C/1B Ralphy Velazquez (Guardians):
Season: .253/.331/.496 | 9.7 BB% / 20.1 K% | 48 XBH, 19 HR, 1 SB
This Week: 9/16 | 7 XBH, 4 HR, 0 SB
Notes: Velazquez has more or less had a rough go since early 2024, but he was promoted to AA mid-week and has been on a tear. He’s a former top 100 prospect of mine and hopefully this week gets him on the right track, as he’s been very boom or bust this year.
1B Blake Burke (Brewers):
Season: .293/.382/.425 | 12 BB% / 23.4 K% | 34 XBH, 8 HR, 12 SB
This Week: 7/20 | 3 XBH, 2 HR, 0 SB
Notes: Burke was a comp first rounder last year and has put up some killer wRC+ numbers. He’s underrated, as most prospectors (including myself) will write off 1B compared to other positions.
AA Pitchers:
- SP Thomas White (Marlins)
2024 A/A+: 96 IP | 20 K-BB%, 14.6 SwStr%, 30.5 CSW% | 2.81 ERA, 1.31 WHIP
2025 A+ (as of 5/25/25): 25 IP | 19.4 K-BB%, 18.1 SwStr%, 33 CSW% | 3.24 ERA, 1.32 WHIP
This Week: 5 IP | 9 Ks, 2 BBs | 1.80 ERA, 1.20 WHIP
Age: 20
ETA: Mid 2026
fScore: N/A
Comp: Carlos Rodon / Andrew Heaney mash up
Prime Skills: White is a big 6’ 5” lefty who I saw live both in A ball last year and in the Spring Breakout game this spring with noticeable differences in his repertoire that has made his stuff very impressive, while he needs to work on harnessing the command.
In Person (last year / this year):
- vFB 94-97 MPH / 97-99 MPH
- 78-82 MPH slider / 83-85 MPH (gyro slider – harder – less loop) — 15.4 SwStr%
- 85-87 MPH / 85-88 MPH change up — 21.6 SwStr%
Player Notes: Just like Snelling, Thomas White great starts are becoming clockwork.
SP Griff McGarry (Phillies)
2025 Season: 56 1/3 IP | 21.14 K-BB%, 15.7 SwStr%, 33.4 CSW% | 3.83 ERA, 1.19 WHIP
This Week: 6 IP | 12 Ks, 1 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP
Notes: McGarry has always had killer stuff with terrible command, but the last few starts the command has been spot on. He may have figured it out, time to get him to AAA.
SP Jarlin Susana (Nationals)
2025 Season: 44 2/3 IP | 22.2 K-BB%, 14.8 SwStr%, 32.4 CSW% | 3.43 ERA, 1.37 WHIP
This Week: 5 IP | 9 Ks, 2 BBs | 1.80 ERA, 0.60 WHIP
Notes: Susana, like McGarry has had command issues, but he is improving the last few weeks after returning from injury.
SP TJ Nichols (Rays)
2025 Season: 109 2/3 IP | 24.2 K-BB%, 13.7 SwStr%, 31.9 CSW% | 3.20 ERA, 1.07 WHIP
This Week: 7 IP | 7 Ks, 2 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.57 WHIP
Notes: Nichols has been a stud this year and will be making my next Top 150.
SP Jonathan Santucci (Mets)
2025 Season: 97 1/3 IP | 19.7 K-BB%, 16.1 SwStr%, 31.8 CSW% | 3.24 ERA, 1.17 WHIP
This Week: 5 1/3 IP | 11 Ks, 1 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.75 WHIP
Notes: Santucci is a first timer on the list this season despite having an excellent season to date.
SP Ixan Henderson (Cardinals)
2025 Season: 107 2/3 IP | 17.4 K-BB%, 10.7 SwStr%, 28.5 CSW% | 2.42 ERA, 1.11 WHIP
This Week: 6 2/3 IP | 8 Ks, 1 BBs | 1.35 ERA, 0.30 WHIP (1 hit)
Notes: Henderson looks like he could be the next Miles Mikolas for the Cardinals as a back end starter / control artist type pitcher.
A+ Hitters:
- SS Leo De Vries (Padres)
2024 A: .237/.361/.441 | 13.9 BB%, 23.3 K% | 36 XBH, 11 HR, 13 SB (75 games)
2025 A+ (as of 8/17/25): .243/.351/.416 | 13.2 BB%, 20.2 K% | 36 XBH, 10 HR, 9 SB
This Week: 4/16 | 3 XBH, 2 HR, 0 SB
Age: 18
ETA: 2027
fScores: N/A
Comp: Switch hitting Alfonso Soriano at SS
Prime Skills: De Vries has super high upside across the board and is a five-tool talent, but at 17-years-old is way above his age-to-level. De Vries is absolutely electric and has a long swing despite quick hands, giving me that Soriano feeling. He’s actually improved the hit tool since last season and splits-wise is much better from the right side (he’s a switch hitter) than the left side. I don’t think that’s a concern as he still hits for decent power from the left side, but it’s something to watch.
Player Notes: De Vries is starting to come into his own in the new organization with his first solid week as a part of the Athletics organization.
- SS/3B Luis Pena (Brewers)
2024 DSL: .393/.457/.583 | 8.2 BB%, 8.2 K% | 23 XBH, 1 HR, 39 SB
2025 A (as of 8/17/25): .304/.375/.487 | 9.2 BB%, 15 K% | 32 XBH, 9 HR, 41 SB
This Week: 6/17 | 3 XBH, 2 HR, 1 SB
Age: 18
ETA: 2027
fScores: N/A
Comp: Righty only Francisco Lindor mechanics meets Jacob Wilson plate approach with speed
Prime Skills: Pena has a plus hit tool with an 82.4% contact rate and is rocking a 106.5 90th percentile EV this season, which is higher than his 104 max EV last season in the DSL. The plate skills are reminiscent of Franklin Arias, but he’s a year behind him in development.
Player Notes: Pena has had a rough go contact-wise at high A, but had his first big week since thee promotion.
OF Max Belyeu (Rockies):
Season: N/A
This Week: 4/13 | 2 XBH, 2 HR, 1 SB
Notes: Belyeu made his organizational debut after being picked in the second round of this year’s draft and started high A off with a bang.
A+ Pitchers:
SP Xavier Rivas (Yankees)
2025 Season: 68 2/3 IP | 15.2 K-BB%, 15.8 SwStr%, 31.2 CSW% | 3.80 ERA, 1.25 WHIP
This Week: 7 IP | 12 Ks, 2 BBs | 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP
Notes: Rivas has made the list in back-to-back weeks now after another strong start.
SP Daniel Eagen (Diamondbacks)
2025 Season: 97 2/3 IP | 23.5 K-BB%, 16.4 SwStr%, 33.1 CSW% | 2.49 ERA, 1.06 WHIP
This Week: 7 IP | 11 Ks, 2 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.57 WHIP
Notes: Eagen is going to easily be a top 150 player in the next ranking update, possibly even top 100.
SP Michael Forret (Orioles)
2025 Season: 59 2/3 IP | 26 K-BB%, 16 SwStr%, 31.1 CSW% | 1.51 ERA, 0.80 WHIP
This Week: 5 IP | 6 Ks, 1 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.60 WHIP
Notes: His week was only so-so, but this is a guy I’ve wanted to get on the list for a while, because I think he’s very good and will be in my next top 150.
SP Josh Bostick (Giants)
2025 Season: 97 1/3 IP | 18.8 K-BB%, 11.6 SwStr%, 27.9 CSW% | 3.98 ERA, 1.20 WHIP
This Week: 6 IP | 14 Ks, 1 BBs | 1.50 ERA, 0.83 WHIP
Notes: Bostick had one of the most dominant starts of the season this week.
A Hitters:
OF Edward Florentino (Pirates):
Season: .290/.408/.557 | 14.7 BB% / 22.1 K% | 38 XBH, 16 HR, 32 SB
This Week: 6/21 | 4 XBH, 2 HR, 2 SB
Notes: I saw Florentino this week, but unfortunately missed his home run. There is a bit of passivity I don’t like in his approach, but hopefully after some time that goes away.
OF Ethan Petry (Nationals):
Season: N/A
This Week: 7/18 | 3 XBH, 1 HR, 0 SB
Notes: Petry made his debut this week after the Nationals drafted him in the second round this year.
A Pitchers:
SP Jostin Florentino (Cubs)
2025 Season: 76 IP | 23.5 K-BB%, 13.9 SwStr%, 31.6 CSW% | 2.25 ERA, 1.03 WHIP
This Week: 6 IP | 7 Ks, 0 BBs | 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP
Notes: Florentino is a name to watch, he’s been solid this year.
SP Esteban Mejia (Orioles)
2025 Season: 48 2/3 IP | 16.2 K-BB%, 17.2 SwStr%, 32.5 CSW% | 2.59 ERA, 1.03 WHIP
This Week: 4 1/3 IP | 7 Ks, 1 BBs | 2.08 ERA, 0.46 WHIP
Notes: Mejia has a crazy good fastball that has touched up to 102 mph, he’s a name to watch.
DSL Hitters:
SS Marconi German (Nationals):
Season: .271/.473/.507 | 20.2 BB% / 19.2 K% | 17 XBH, 8 HR, 28 SB
This Week: 3/9 | 2 XBH, 1 HR, 2 SB
Notes: German has been one of the best players in the DSL this year.
