Smash Spots
Blake Snell (SP – LAD) @ PIT
Blake Snell has allowed a combined eight earned runs in 28.1 innings since returning from injury on August 2nd. Up next is a smash spot against one of the worst lineups in baseball in a pitcher’s park.
Brandon Woodruff (SP – MIL) @ PIT
Brandon Woodruff has hit a rough patch lately, with consecutive poor outings against the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays, but he should be able to right the ship against the lowly Pirates.
Jesus Luzardo (SP – PHI) @ MIA
Jesus Luzardo is coming off a poor outing against the Mets, but he should be able to get back on track against the Marlins. We’ve seen a high ceiling from the Phillies’ lefty this year, including 12 strikeouts against the Mariners on August 20th.
Risky Starts
Nick Pivetta (SP – SD) @ COL
Nick Pivetta has been rock-solid for the Padres this season, but it’s always concerning to fire up a starting pitcher at Coors Field, even with the Rockies being one of the worst offenses in MLB.
Robbie Ray (SP – SF) @ COL
Like Pivetta, Robbie Ray is in a tough spot at Coors. The Giants’ lefty has also not been as effective of late, coming off a six earned run outing against the Orioles.
Carlos Rodon (SP – NYY) @ HOU
Carlos Rodon has been one of the Yankees’ most dependable pitchers this season, but up next is a tough spot against a righty-heavy Astros lineup.
Two-Start Pitchers
Ryne Nelson (SP – ARI) vs. TEX, vs. BOS
Ryne Nelson has been a nice surprise for the Diamondbacks, registering a 3.53 ERA on the season. The young righty has been much better at home, featuring a 2.42 ERA and 0.93 WHIP, which is good news for his two-start week against the Rangers and Red Sox.
Noah Cameron (SP – KC) vs. LAA, vs. MIN
Noah Cameron has been another surprising starter this season, putting up a 2.92 ERA in 108 innings. He’s got a pair of exploitable home matchups against the Angels and Twins next.
Bailey Ober (SP – MIN) vs. CWS, @ KC
Bailey Ober has been one of the biggest busts of the season. However, he’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in two of his last four starts, so we could see a pair of quality outings against the White Sox and Royals.
