Fantasy Football Streamers & Waiver Wire Targets: Tight Ends

The tight end position matters greatly in fantasy football. Tight ends are not as flashy as their route-running counterparts at wide receiver. Most of them do not normally get the same volume of touches as fantasy-relevant running backs. That can sometimes lead to them being overlooked or treated as an afterthought. Do not make that mistake.

The tight end pool is the shallowest of them all in terms of fantasy. Finding production there weekly can be incredibly challenging, especially for those who did not invest in one of the top options during draft season.

One way to find success at the position is by carefully playing the waiver wire week-to-week. The goal of this weekly article is to help fantasy managers do just that by finding low-rostered tight ends in the best situations for that particular week.

Fantasy Football Tight End Streamers & Waiver Wire Pickups

The following tight ends are rostered in fewer than 75% of Yahoo! leagues.

Hunter Henry (TE – NE) vs. CAR | 60% Rostered

It’s been an up-and-down track for Hunter Henry over the first three weeks, but he hit big this past Sunday. The veteran tight end scored both of the Patriots’ touchdowns in a 21-14 loss to the Steelers, pulling down eight of his 11 targets for 90 yards.

All three marks were team highs for the Patriots, and it was not really close. That’s not going to be the case for Henry every week, of course, but he’s looking at an inviting matchup against the Panthers in Week 4.

Chig Okonkwo (TE – TEN) at HOU | 31% Rostered

Chig Okonkwo’s output has improved a bit each week, as rookie quarterback Cam Ward gets acclimated to the NFL. Okonkwo was targeted six times in the Week 3 loss to the Colts, finishing with team highs of five receptions and 66 yards.

The fourth-year tight end is an experienced safety blanket for Ward, who should continue to see ample throws his way. Okonkwo will see a Texans’ defense that surrendered nine catches to Jacksonville tight ends this past Sunday.

Brenton Strange (TE – JAX) at SF | 25% Rostered

Speaking of Jaguars tight ends, Brenton Strange tops the depth chart. This past Sunday, the 2023 second-round pick was the top pass-catcher among all of Trevor Lawrence‘s options in the passing game. While other receivers were struggling with drops and miscues, Strange paced all Jaguars by securing sex of his seven targets for 61 yards.

Lawrence and Strange have been on the same page so far this season, connecting on 81.3% of targets. Though he has yet to find the end zone, Strange gets a meeting with a 49ers defense that has allowed a touchdown to a tight end each of the past two weeks.

Dalton Schultz (TE – HOU) vs. TEN | 19% Rostered

Dalton Schultz got a little more involved in the Texans’ passing game in Week 3, setting season highs in targets (six), receptions (five) and receiving yards (39). C.J. Stroud is looking for anyone to be a viable secondary option to star wideout Nico Collins, and Schultz just might be that option right now.

The two have built chemistry over the past couple of seasons, with Schultz finishing with more than 50 grabs in each. The veteran tight end should get a decent share of looks once again, as the Texans look for their first win of the season this Sunday against the Titans.
