Game of the Week
(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
#3 Miami (FL) @ #18 Florida State (+4.5) | 53.5 | Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC
One of the best rivalries in college football takes center stage this Saturday in Tallahassee. Unfortunately, Florida State got caught looking ahead and dropped an overtime thriller to Virginia last week, while Miami remains undefeated. Both offenses have lit up the scoreboards through four games, with Miami ranking 32nd (36.8 points per game) and Florida State the highest-scoring team in the nation at 53 points per game. Miami has the defensive edge in just about every category, but it did allow Notre Dame to put up 24 points in week 1. Florida State did hold Alabama to 17, but allowed 46 to Virginia.
This game will be all about the quarterbacks, Carson Beck and Thomas Castellanos. Both had zero turnovers in the first two games, then both threw three interceptions in the past two games. If Beck continues to turn the ball over, Florida State could keep Miami’s defense on the field long enough to wear them down and hit the explosive plays they have all season.
Miami’s defense will be able to slow down Florida State’s offense enough and lean on its defense and running backs Mark Fletcher and CharMar Brown to secure a big victory.
My Picks:
Devy Spotlight
Bryant Wesco (WR – Clemson) | 2027
Bryant Wesco is another WR in the 2027 class to look out for. As a true freshman, he put up 708 yards on 41 receptions and five touchdowns. So far this season, he is averaging close to 100 receiving yards per game with two 100-yard games already and five touchdowns.
Clemson faces UNC’s middle-of-the-road pass defense (208 yards allowed per game, 64th), allowing Wesco to shine on a nationally televised game.
Heisman Trophy Race
The top five Heisman Trophy favorites after Week 5:
- Dante Moore (QB – Oregon) | +600
- Ty Simpson (QB – Alabama) | +950
- Carson Beck (QB – Miami) | +1000
- Jeremiah Smith (WR – Ohio State) | +1000
- Trinidad Chambliss (QB – Ole Miss) | +1200
We see a little bit of turnover from last week’s top five, with Fernando Mendoza and John Mateer (injury) dropping out. Ty Simpson and Trinidad Chambliss make the leap this week after big wins. Jeremiah Smith makes a slight move in odds from +1200 to +1000 after recording 81 yards and a touchdown against Washington.
Even though Carson Beck was on a bye, he moves from +1300 to +1000 heading into Doak S. Campbell Stadium to take on rival Florida State. Chambliss has only started three games this season and finds himself cracking the top five after putting up at least 300 yards and a touchdown in each game. Jeremiyah Love, sitting at +5000, is someone I am keeping an eye on after scoring eight touchdowns in the past three games.
