Week 5 is now in the books. There are numerous storylines to track, but perhaps the most significant is the overlooked IDP players who showed out in Week 5. There were a lot of defensive fireworks in Week 5, so there are more than a few intriguing names on the waiver wire in leagues of all sizes. Let’s take a look at some of the names that may be worth some of your free agent budget.
Week 6 IDP Waiver Wire
Linebacker
Nate Landman (LB – LAR): 7% rostered on Yahoo
Landman was excellent in Week 5, racking up eight solos, six assists, one tackle for loss, and three passes defended. Landman has had a strong start to his Rams tenure and has settled in as one of the better LB2 options. He has recorded four or more solos in three of his five contests and has contributed enough in the peripherals to keep him in the LB2 conversation. Tap him as an elite LB2 option for Week 6, thanks to a plus matchup against a banged-up Baltimore Ravens team. Add Landman everywhere.
Teddye Buchanan (LB – BAL): 7% rostered on Yahoo
Buchanan showed up in Week 5, tallying eight solos, seven assists, and one tackle for loss. Teddye has been starting over Trenton Simpson but saw an expanded role in Week 5, due to Roquan Smith being sidelined. This was easily his most impressive IDP putput of the season and marks his first game with more than four solos. Teddye is a strong LB3 play regardless of Roquan’s Week 6 status. Treat him as such for a plus Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Cedric Gray (LB – TEN): 4% rostered on Yahoo
Gray was at it again in Week 5, racking up six solos, six assists, and one tackle for loss. Gray is one of the hotter linebackers in fantasy right now and should be rostered in all competitive leagues while he is cooking. Gray has recorded five or more solos in three of four and has tallied 16 solos in his last two games. Tap Gray as a sneaky LB2 option for Week 6, thanks for a plus Week 6 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jihaad Campbell (LB – PHI): 3% rostered on Yahoo
Campbell impressed in Week 6, reeling off six solos, five assists, and one tackle for loss. Jihaad has quietly racked up five or more solos in three of his last four games, working his way into the bye week LB2 conversation in the process. Treat him as such for a plus Week 6 matchup against the New York Giants. Add Jihaad wherever available.
Shemar James (LB – DAL): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Shemar James turned heads in Week 5, stacking eight solos and seven assists. Shermar played 73 percent of the snaps and should continue to get a heavy snap count in Week 6. He is still more of a speculative add for those in shallower leagues, but those in 11 v 11 leagues or ocean-deep leagues should add Shemar immediately. Tap James as an LB3 option for Week 6, thanks to a plus matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Defensive Line
Dorance Armstrong (DE – WAS): 8% rostered on Yahoo
Armstrong was at it again in Week 5, tallying two solos, one assist, two sacks, and two tackles for loss. Dorance is up to five sacks on the season and has recorded a sack in four of his five contests. He has been producing well enough to be counted as part of the DL1 conversation while he is hot and should be treated as such for Week 6, thanks to a plus matchup against the Chicago Bears. Treat Dorance as a must-start for the tasty matchup. Add Armstrong wherever still available.
Josh Sweat (DE/LB – ARI): 7% rostered on Yahoo
Josh Sweat stayed hot in Week 5, tallying three solos, one assist, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and one pass defended. Sweat is up to five sacks on the season and has gotten to the quarterback in four straight. Sweat is a virtual must start as a borderline DL1 option for as long as he is cooking. Start him with confidence for a plus Week 6 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Bradley Chubb (DE/LB – MIA): 2% rostered on Yahoo
Chubb stayed hot in Week 5, tallying one solo, one assist, one sack, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Chubb is up to four sacks on the season and has recorded at least one sack in four of his five contests. Fire him up as a strong DL2 option for a plus Week 6 matchup against a Los Angeles Chargers team missing both of their starting offensive tackles.
James Houston (DE – DAL): 0% rostered on Yahoo
James Houston impressed again in Week 5, racking up two solos, one assist, 1.5 sacks, and one tackle for loss. Houston is up to a modest 3.5 sacks on the season, but has recorded a sack in three of his last four, and has done so in a bit rotational role. He played a season-high 33 percent of the snaps in Week 5, and while he is destined for an expanded role after his continued strong play, his production in limited snaps gives us a glimpse of his potential upside. Houston is worth a look as a DL3/4 for Week 6, especially with the Carolina Panthers on deck. Add and start Houston where possible.
Justin Eboigbe (DE – LAC): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Eboigbe was excellent in Week 5, tallying three solos, one assist, one sack, and one tackle for loss. Eboigbe has recorded a sack in each of his last two games and saw his Week 4 effort get rewarded, as his snap share almost doubled from 36 percent to 71 percent in Week 5. He is an end in an odd front, so we should expect some peaks and valleys, but he is playing well enough to warrant attention, especially in deeper formats. Start him as a DL3/4 option for Week 6, thanks to a plus matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Add Eboigbe where needed.

Defensive Back
Jalen Pitre (CB/S – HOU): 2% rostered on Yahoo
Pitre exploded in Week 5, racking up three solos, one assist, two interceptions, and two passes defended against the Cooper Rush led Baltimore Ravens. Pitre is up to three picks on the season and has been thriving in the nickel role on the field, but has obviously lost some of his IDP upside with his move to the slot. He has tallied three or more solos in each game and makes for a fine DB3 option for Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks. Pitre is on bye this week, so plan your FAAB bids and roster space accordingly. Add Pitre where needed.
Marques Sigle (S – SF): 3% rostered on Yahoo
Sigle shone on Thursday night, stacking seven solos, six assists, and one pass defended. Marques has tallied five or more solos in three of his five contests and in each of his last two. There is going to be some inconsistency, but Marques is an easy DB2 play for the bye weeks. Treat him as such for a plus Week 6 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Add Sigle wherever possible.
Quentin Lake (S/CB – LAR): 9% rostered on Yahoo
Lake was excellent in Week 5, notching seven solos, four assists, and one pass defended. Quentin has tallied five solos in two straight and four or more in three of his five contests overall. He will be back in the DB1 mix for Week 6, thanks to a saliva-inducing matchup against the Cooper Rush led Baltimore Ravens. Start Lake with confidence everywhere. Lake should not be available in any leagues; add him immediately where available.
Jonas Sanker (S – NO): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Sanker impressed in Week 5, reeling off six solos, one assist, one tackle for loss, and one fumble recovery. Sanker has tallied four or more solos in three of four games since being given an expanded role, and makes for a strong DB3 with DB2 upside. Treat him as such for a plus Week 6 matchup against the New England Patriots. Add Sanker where needed.
Juanyeh Thomas (S – DAL): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Let’s go deep. Juanyeh Thomas was excellent in Week 5, tallying five solos and five assists on 100 percent of the snaps. Thomas got the start for Malik Hooker (toe, now on IR) and should see a similar role for the next three games, minimum. Deep league managers should add Juanyeh wherever available. Start him as an easy DB3 option for Week 6, thanks to a plus matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
