Fantasy Football Burning Questions
How Will the Vikings’ Offense Function Under Max Brosmer?
The Vikings have lost three consecutive games entering Week 13, scoring fewer than 20 points in all three outings. Other than a 27-24 upset victory against Detroit, the offense has looked abysmal with J.J. McCarthy under center, who averaged 154.8 passing yards as the starter (six games) and ranked 68th out of 69 quarterbacks in both total expected points added (EPA) with a mark of -76.31 and pass EPA (-73.78). McCarthy was especially bad this past weekend, throwing for a career-low 87 yards with two interceptions and zero touchdowns.
Shortly after the game, McCarthy was diagnosed with a concussion and has already been ruled out for Week 13. Losing your starting quarterback usually isn’t a good thing, but it’s hard to imagine the offense looking much worse, even with undrafted rookie Max Brosmer under center.
Is C.J. Stroud a Downgrade?
The Texans have gone 3-0 with Davis Mills under center, now only two games behind the Colts for first place in the AFC South. The offense has been clicking on all cylinders with Mills and may actually get a downgrade with C.J. Stroud finally clearing concussion protocol and returning to the starting lineup.
Second-round rookie (No. 34 overall) Jayden Higgins has seen his stock rise the most without Stroud, finding the end zone in back-to-back games, while averaging 4.3 receptions on 7.7 targets for 45 yards since Week 10. He trails only Nico Collins (32.5%) for second on the team in air yards share (31.2%) during that stretch.
Can we Trust the Buccaneers?
Baker Mayfield exited Week 12 with a sprained AC joint on his non-throwing shoulder, but looks to be a full go after being listed as a full participant in practice on Friday. He may be at less than 100% health, but help is on the way with Bucky Irving finally returning to the lineup. Although Irving should regain control of the backfield, it may take some time before he sees a full workload. Per head coach Todd Bowles:
“We’ll put him in. Once he gets in, we’ll see how he’s rolling. And then between him, Rachaad [White] and Sean [Tucker], we’ll kind of go with the hot hand.”
At 6-5, less than half a game ahead of Carolina (6-6), things are looking up for Tampa Bay, as they eye their fifth consecutive AFC South title.
