Fantasy Football Heat Index: Buy or Sell Surprise Performances

Every Monday of the NFL regular season, we look at breakout performances from the weekend and analyze their potential for sustained success. We will rank these performances from 1-5 based on whether we believe they are momentary or long-term options for your fantasy football teams.

Fantasy Football Heat Index

Quarterback

Cam Ward (QB – TEN)

Stats:

  • 28-of-42 for 256 Passing Yards
  • 1 Passing Touchdown
  • 6 Rushing Attempts
  • 37 Rushing Yards
  • 1 Rushing Touchdown

Position Rank (pre-MNF): QB4 (23.9 fantasy points)

Analysis: Cam Ward put together the best performance of his young career in Tennessee’s 30-24 loss to Seattle in Week 12. The rookie signal-caller completed 28-of-42 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown, showing improved command of the offense and efficiency through the air.

Ward also added a career-high 37 rushing yards and another score on the ground, flashing the play-making ability that makes him such an intriguing long-term fantasy prospect. That effort has him sitting at QB4 (pre-Monday Night Football) on the week, offering a glimpse of the upside Tennessee saw when they drafted him No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Even so, fantasy managers shouldn’t rush to plug the rookie into lineups. Ward’s production has been inconsistent, and one spike week doesn’t erase the volatility. Until he proves he can stack consecutive outings, Ward is best treated as a speculative add (at best) in Superflex formats rather than a locked-in QB2.

Running Back

Kenneth Walker III (RB – SEA)

Stats:

  • 11 Rushing Attempts
  • 71 Rushing Yards
  • 3 Receptions
  • 30 Receiving Yards

Position Rank (pre-MNF): RB16 (11.6 fantasy points)

Analysis: Kenneth Walker topped 100 scrimmage yards for the second straight game in Week 12, piling up 71 yards on the ground and 30 through the air against a porous Titans defense. He maximized every touch, currently checking in as RB16 on the week.

The bigger takeaway is Walker’s rising usage. His snap share has climbed from 41% in Week 10 to 64% in Week 12, a clear sign that a lead-back role could be within reach.

Zach Charbonnet still frustratingly punched in the goal line touchdown on one of his six rushing attempts, but Walker’s expanding workload points towards a significant role down the stretch and makes him the back to trust in this offense.

Wide Receiver

Wan’Dale Robinson (WR – NYG)

Stats:

  • 9 Receptions
  • 156 Receiving Yards
  • 1 Touchdown

Position Rank (pre-MNF): WR2 (26.1 fantasy points)

Analysis: Giants wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson exploded in Week 12 against the Lions, hauling in nine receptions for 156 yards and a touchdown. He finished with 26.1 half-PPR points, cementing himself as one of the week’s biggest fantasy football difference-makers.

With Jaxson Dart sidelined by a concussion, Robinson found success working with backup Jameis Winston. The rookie’s impending return may alter the dynamic, but Robinson’s Week 12 breakout demonstrated his ability to provide reliable, high-level production when the offense turns his way.

Heat Index: 4

Tight End

Brenton Strange (TE – JAX)

Stats:

  • 5 Receptions
  • 93 Receiving Yards

Position Rank (pre-MNF): TE5 (11.8 fantasy points)

Analysis: Tight end Brenton Strange made an immediate impact in his first game back from injured reserve (IR), hauling in five passes for 93 yards in Jacksonville’s 27-24 overtime win over Arizona. With Brian Thomas Jr. missing his third consecutive game and Travis Hunter out for the season, Strange quickly reestablished himself as a reliable target for Trevor Lawrence, building on the success he showed earlier this season before the injury.

Strange enters Monday Night Football as the TE5 on the week, reminding fantasy managers that he can deliver streaming value when given opportunities. While it’s too early to expect weekly top-five production, Strange should be rostered in the majority of fantasy football formats.
