Fantasy Football Impact: Raiders Trade Jakobi Meyers to Jaguars

Jakobi Meyers is headed to Jacksonville to bolster their banged-up receiver room. First off, I think this move is telling about Travis Hunter‘s health. I know Hunter was only placed on IR, but it’s possible that we don’t see him for the rest of the regular season. I figured I’d address that before diving into Meyer’s fit with Jacksonville because Hunter is droppable at this point, depending on your waiver wire or IR options.

Brian Thomas Jr. was injured in last week’s game, and his health is also up in the air, so this move is not only about possibly bolstering the depth chart but giving Trevor Lawrence a competent two-receiver set with Parker Washington until Thomas Jr. and (cross your fingers) Hunter return.

Jakobi Meyers is the WR47 in fantasy points per game and hasn’t hit double-digit PPR points since Week 2. It has been a rough stretch of games for him since. Overall with the Raiders, Meyers has had a 20.9% target share with 50.3 receiving yards per game (1.51 yards per route run) and a 25.2% first-read share, per Fantasy Points Data. Meyers had five red zone targets and five deep targets with Las Vegas. Meyers could return WR3/flex value moving forward, but he’ll be facing the second-hardest fantasy schedule for wide receivers for the rest of the season, plus a murky target outlook should Thomas Jr. and Hunter return quicker than I’m initially anticipating.

The most heavily impacted player by this move is Parker Washington this week. Dyami Brown is likely to miss this week’s game as he recovers from a concussion, but please monitor his status in our “Are They Playing?” tool this week because we have seen players clear the concussion protocol quicker at times. In Parker Washington‘s last game before the Week 8 bye, he had a 77.2% route share, a 20.8% target share, 52 receiving yards, and a 17.9% first-read share, per Fantasy Points Data. Last week, he finished with a 26.4% target share, eight receptions, and 90 receiving yards as he operated as the team’s WR1 with Thomas Jr. and Brown leaving with injuries. Washington isn’t as sexy of a waiver wire add with the addition of Meyers, but Meyers will need time to assimilate into the passing offense. I’m not knowing Washington’s standing too much this week, but moving forward, his rest of season shimmer has dulled with his starting status up in the air. It’s also possible that is his a WR3/4 or flex play for the remainder of the season if Thomas Jr. and Hunter remain sidelined.

It’s tough to diagnose how this impacts Thomas Jr. and Hunter without knowing their health statuses clearly right now, but it obviously wouldn’t help their target shares moving forward with the insertion of a talented player like Meyers into the mix. I will say, though, if you were holding Brenton Strange in an IR spot, you can cut him loose to the waiver wire.
