NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer
NBA DFS Core Plays
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (PG – OKC)
- DraftKings: $10,700
- FanDuel: $11,000
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander faces a terrible Indiana Pacers side in a rematch of the NBA Finals from last season. The Pacers have an opponent rank of 25, with Gilgeous-Alexander averaging 51.2 fantasy points per game. He is worth a look at the top of your lineup, anchoring your team.
Gilgeous-Alexander was good for 40 points last time out in Milwaukee, hitting 16-of-19 from the field, while adding 11 assists, seven rebounds, and a pair of three-pointers. He has scored 29+ points in six of the past seven games, and he is averaging 36.3 points per game in the past three outings.
Evan Mobley (PF, C – CLE)
- DraftKings: $8,700
- FanDuel: $8,500
Evan Mobley is a strong DFS option to build your frontcourt around, and using a Cleveland stack against the struggling Sacramento Kings is a great play. The Kings are 30th in opponent rank, and he is posting 40.5 fantasy points per game.
Mobley went for 14 points with 14 rebounds and three blocked shots in Charlotte on Wednesday, and he has scored 14+ points in nine consecutive games. Mobley has three blocks in four of the past five outings. He is averaging three blocks per game in the five-game span.
Donovan Mitchell (SG – CLE)
- DraftKings: $9,700
- FanDuel: $9,400
In a Cleveland stack, you’re going to want some serious exposure to Donovan Mitchell. In nine games in January, Mitchell is averaging 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, 5.3 rebounds, 3.3 three-pointers made and 1.4 steals per game.
The Kings are allowing 120.7 points per game (26th in the NBA), while teams are hitting a ridiculous 49.1% from the field (29th) against them. Look for Mitchell and the Cavaliers to roll at home on Friday night.
NBA DFS Cash Game Targets
Domantas Sabonis (PF, C – SAC)
- DraftKings: $8,100
- FanDuel: $7,300
Sticking with the Kings-Cavaliers game, Domantas Sabonis is a strong play. He has had a minutes limit in his first three games since returning from a two-month injury absence, and is averaging nine points, eight rebounds and 3.3 assists in 19.3 minutes per game.
The minutes limit could be a bit of a drawback. But, eventually, the training wheels are going to get kicked off when he is rolling along one night. That night might very well be tonight in Cleveland, in a potentially high-scoring affair. Cleveland is 23rd in opponent rank, while averaging 37.3 fantasy points per game.
Jarrett Allen (C – CLE)
- DraftKings: $6,500
- FanDuel: $6,300
Jarrett Allen continues to hum right along, and he hardly ever misfires on field goals. He has hit 50% or better from the field in four consecutive games, eight of nine games in January and 16 of the past 17 games dating back to December 17th. Allen is shooting 59.2% from the field, his lowest shooting rate since 2018-19 with Brooklyn, his second season in the NBA. That’s how consistent Allen is.
Allen looks to take advantage of the Kings, especially if/when Domantas Sabonis is on the pine. He is averaging 12.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in nine games in January.
Jalen Green (SG – PHX)
- DraftKings: $6,800
- FanDuel: $4,800
It’s hard to understand the salary disparity between DraftKings and FanDuel, but Jalen Green needs to be a part of your lineup, especially on FanDuel.
Green is averaging just 22.3 fantasy points per game, while the Atlanta Hawks rank 17th in opponent rank. He returned from a nine-week absence on Tuesday, going for 12 points with three assists, two rebounds and two three-pointers on 4-of-11 shooting in 20 minutes in Philadelphia. Like Domantas Sabonis, take advantage of a player in the first couple of games back from injury, as the restrictions will soon be lifted.
NBA DFS GPP Targets
Jaylon Tyson (SG, SF – CLE)
- DraftKings: $6,600
- FanDuel: $5,800
Jaylon Tyson is a strong play, as he continues to see a regular starting role and big minutes while Darius Garland (toe) is on the shelf. He has racked up 11+ points in each of the past six games, while posting five or more rebounds in four of them, and exactly four assists in each of the past three outings.
Tyson is a tremendous option for perimeter shooting, going for 19 total three-pointers across the past six games. He scored a career-high 39 points in Philadelphia last Friday on a 13-of-17 field-goal performance, including seven three-pointers.
Dillon Brooks (SF – PHX)
- DraftKings: $6,000
- FanDuel: $5,600
While there is always a concern that Jalen Green will carve into his playing time and production, Dillon Brooks is still a decent value at this price point. Playing both at a mid-tier DFS price isn’t a terrible option in Atlanta in a potentially high-scoring game.
Brooks is averaging 18 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.6 three-pointers made in 30.2 minutes per game this month. The last time Brooks faced the Hawks, he recorded 34 points, six rebounds, three triples and three steals in a 124-122 loss on November 16th.
Cam Spencer (PG, SG – MEM)
- DraftKings: $5,700
- FanDuel: $5,700
Cam Spencer is a strong play, as he continues to put up solid production at a mid-tier DFS price. He went for 11 points with four assists and two three-pointers in 21 minutes against the Hawks last time out on Wednesday.
Spencer has scored at least 10 points in five of the past seven outings, and he is averaging 10.2 points, 7.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 three-pointers made per game in January. Look for Spencer to do well in a favorable matchup against a Pelicans side allowing 122 points per game (27th) and a 48.6% field-goal rate (26th).
NBA DFS Value Plays
Dennis Schroder (PG, SG – SAC)
- DraftKings: $4,600
- FanDuel: $3,800
We’re back to the Sacramento-Cleveland tilt. Dennis Schroder is coming off a solid line last time out on Wednesday against Toronto, scoring 16 points against the Raptors. He is averaging 11.8 points per game in nine January contests, going for 11+ points in seven of those outings.
Jeremiah Fears (PG – NOP)
- DraftKings: $4,900
- FanDuel: $5,200
Jeremiah Fears has been a steadying force in the backcourt for the Pellies, as he is making the most of his ability to play regular minutes in his rookie season. The 19-year-old is good for 13 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 three-pointers made per game in 11 outings in January.
Vince Williams Jr. (PF – MEM)
- DraftKings: $4,400
- FanDuel: $3,800
Vince Williams Jr. and Cam Spencer continue to hold down the fort with Ja Morant on the shelf due to injury. Williams has struggled in the past few games, but his low DFS salary means limited risk. If he can rediscover his shot, Williams will more than pay for himself, while allowing you to spend plenty of bread elsewhere.
