NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer
NBA DFS Core Plays
Anthony Edwards (SG – MIN)
- DraftKings: $9,500
- FanDuel: $10,100
Anthony Edwards is a fine play on both sites. He has averaged 46.6 Fantasy Points Per Game (FPPG) on DraftKings, and he is facing an Opponent Ranking (OPRK) of 29th against the New Orleans Pelicans. It’s a tremendous spot to load up on the star from the Twin Cities.
Ant Man has been on fire in his two games in February, scoring at least 30 points in both outings, averaging 34.5 points (PPG), 7.5 rebounds (RPG), 4.0 assists (APG), and 2.0 steals (SPG) per game, while also hitting a total of four 3-pointers in the span. New Orleans allows 121.0 PPG (28th in the NBA) with a 48.2 percent (25th) defensive field-goal percentage and 35.9 percent (16th) defensive 3-pointer percentage. Expect Edwards to eat well.
Ryan Rollins (PG, SG – MIL)
- DraftKings: $8,500
- FanDuel: $8,700
Ryan Rollins has caught fire lately. The 23-year-old from the University of Toledo, originally a Round 2 pick by the Atlanta Hawks in 2022, is really starting to get comfortable in Cream City. He entered this season with just 19 career stats, all coming last season, but he has 44 starts in 49 games this season, averaging 16.8 PPG, 5.5 APG, and 4.6 RPG with 1.5 SPG.
While the overall body of work is nice for Rollins, he has taken it to another level lately. He has 17 or more points in six straight games, and he is averaging 24.3 PPG, 7.0 APG, and 5.7 RPG across three games in February, while hitting 11 total triples, including at least three treys in each game. Rollins doesn’t have the big name most casual fans might recognize, so his start percentage is likely to be lower than some others.
Derrick White (PG, SG – BOS)
- DraftKings: $8,200
- FanDuel: $8,200
Derrick White is worth a look against the Miami Heat in a very favorable matchup. He has averaged just 36.9 FPPG, which might not necessarily jump off the sheet, but he is facing a Miami team which has an OPRK of 28th.
White hit 10-of-28 from the field at Houston last time out on Wednesday, adding eight assists, a rebound, and six 3-pointers, too. He has scored 11 or more points in three in a row, and seven of the past eight outings. Don’t necessarily expect six triples, but he should settle into that 15-18 point territory with two or three treys.
NBA DFS Cash Game Targets
Shaedon Sharpe (PG, SG – POR)
- DraftKings: $7,900
- FanDuel: $7,200
Shaedon Sharpe is a solid play, especially at this salary. Portland leading scorer Deni Avdija continues to be a question mark due to his back injury, and the team indicated he is unlikely to play after Thursday’s practice. Circle back around on Friday afternoon just to verify Avdija’s status.
If Avdija is able to tough it out and play, Sharpe is still a decent play. However, if Avdija cannot go, Sharpe would be one of the top, if not the top, scoring options. Sharpe is working on a four-game streak with 19 or more points, and he has two or more triples in each of those four games, while posting at least one triple in 15 consecutive outings.
Kevin Porter Jr. (PG, SG – MIL)
- DraftKings: $7,500
- FanDuel: $7,500
The Indiana Pacers rank 25th in the NBA with 118.7 PPG allowed, while they are 26th in The Association with a 48.4 percent defensive field-goal percentage. If Indiana does one thing well, it’s limiting perimeter shots.
Kevin Porter Jr. is coming off a strong game against New Orleans last time out, posting 18 points, nine assists, six rebounds, and five steals in 29 minutes on Wednesday. Look for more of the same against the defensively-challenged Pacers.
Rudy Gobert (C – MIN)
- DraftKings: $6,500
- FanDuel: $6,400
Rudy Gobert has a very favorable matchup, and he comes in with a nice price against the defensively-challenged New Orleans Pelicans. “The Stifle Tower” posted 10 points with 12 rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal in 33 minutes last time out in Toronto on Wednesday, while hitting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
He has 10 or more rebounds in five of the past six games, and double-doubles in three of those outings. NOLA allows 121.0 PPG (28th), a 48.2 percent (25th) defensive field-goal percentage, and a 35.9 percent (16th) three-pointer percentage, too. Look for Gobert to have a strong showing.
NBA DFS GPP Targets
Naz Reid (PF, C – MIN)
- DraftKings: $6,300
- FanDuel: $6,700
Naz Reid and the Timberwolves have a very favorable matchup against the Pelicans, as we mentioned above. If you’re looking for a stack, playing the Minnesota frontcourt against the Pellies is a good strategy.
Reid is working on a six-game streak with 10+ points, while going for at least 15 points in five of those outings. He has also posted six or more rebounds in nine straight games since Jan. 20, and Reid has at least three assists in six of the past nine, so that makes him quite attractive at this price point. Reid also has some upside as a shot blocker.
Kris Dunn (PG, SG – LAC)
- DraftKings: $4,800
- FanDuel: $4,400
While Kris Dunn hasn’t exactly taken advantage of the fact James Harden has been either sidelined or traded, he is still a player of focus for the slate on Friday night.
Dunn has struggled with his shot in the past four games, hitting just 7-of-27 (25.9%) from the field, while averaging 5.3 PPG. Eventually, he is going to get his shot to fall, and with 25-30 minutes, he is going to exceed DFS salary expectations by miles. The Kings are 23rd in OPRK, so the time for Dunn to snap out of his funk could be Friday.
GG Jackson II (PF, SF – MEM)
- DraftKings: $5,400
- FanDuel: $5,600
Gregory Jackson II, the 21-year-old out of South Carolina, has really made the most out of his recent uptick in playing time. He has been especially effective in February, going for 14.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and 1.5 APG, while knocking down a total of three triples.
Jackson has scored 12 or more points in six of the past seven games, too, and the Grizzlies really appear to have found a solid secondary or tertiary scoring option. He is facing a Portland team with an OPRK of 26th, so take advantage of Jackson at this mid-tier price.
NBA DFS Value Plays
Jay Huff (PF, C – IND)
- DraftKings: $4,800
- FanDuel: $5,200
Jay Huff is someone you would normally pay no mind. However, Ivica Zubac, recently acquired from the Clippers, will not suit up, Isaiah Jackson went the other way to Los Angeles, and Micah Potter (bruised left hip) is questionable to play. Huff could receive a huge amount of playing time, and he might exceed his DFS expectations by quite a bit.
Baylor Scheierman (SG, SF – BOS)
- DraftKings: $4,000
- FanDuel: $4,100
The swingman Baylor Scheierman is a bargain at this price point, as he has started the past two games, and he is likely to start at least one more game, at least until Nikola Vucevic is folded in, and coach Joe Mazzulla decides if he wants to make some changes. Scheierman exploded for 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, three triples, and a steal in 23 minutes at Houston last time out. If he can come close to replicating those kind of numbers, watch out.
Vit Krejci (SF, SF – POR)
- DraftKings: $4,100
- FanDuel: $3,800
At this price, Krejci is worth a roll of the dice. He came over in a trade from the Atlanta Hawks, and he was decent in his team debut against the Suns, going for five points, two steals, and an assist, while also hitting a 3-pointer. His shot wasn’t falling, but you can chalk that up to nerves playing with a new team. Look for him to be a little more comfortable in Game No. 2 in the PDX.
