Dynasty Rookie Draft Advice: QB Targets, Busts & Sleepers (Fantasy Football)

Dynasty Rookie Draft Advice: QB Targets, Busts & Sleepers (Fantasy Football)

If you’re looking for dynasty rookie draft advice ahead of the 2026 season, quarterback is the place where this class gets complicated fast. There is one clear top option, then a wide tier of prospects with major flaws, developmental timelines, or shaky draft capital outlooks. For Superflex dynasty managers, that means this quarterback group is less about chasing consensus and more about understanding risk tolerance, upside, and landing spot.

Dynasty Rookie Draft Advice: QB Targets, Busts & Sleepers

The latest FantasyPros NFL Draft Show broke down the position in detail, and the big takeaway is simple: Fernando Mendoza sits alone at the top, while the rest of the class is a mix of projection, patience, and dart throws. Here’s how to think through the top names before your rookie drafts.

It Starts With Fernando Mendoza (QB – Indiana)

Fernando Mendoza is the clear 1.01 quarterback in this class and the safest early Superflex investment. The Indiana product brings size, accuracy, poise, and enough mobility to add situational rushing value without needing designed runs to survive. He wins from the pocket, stays on schedule, and profiles as the kind of quarterback NFL teams trust early.

That matters in dynasty. Mendoza may not be a chaos creator in the mold of some of the more athletic quarterbacks fantasy managers tend to chase, but there is real value in a passer who can command an offense and hold a starting job. In a weaker QB class, he stands out even more.

If you’re drafting in Superflex, he belongs in the 1.01 to 1.02 conversation depending on league format and team need.

Ty Simpson (QB – Alabama) Is One of the Biggest Divides in This Class

Ty Simpson has supporters because he checks some of the traditional boxes. He played in a major program, has a coach’s-kid background, and comes with a reputation for football intelligence. But the concerns are hard to ignore.

The main issue is that Simpson did not consistently show the anticipatory throwing, high-end arm talent, or steady processing you want from a pocket passer. There were flashes, but too much of his game looked reactive instead of decisive. That is a dangerous profile for fantasy because it usually needs both strong draft capital and a very patient development plan to pay off.

He is a name to monitor, but right now he looks more like a volatile second-round rookie pick than a quarterback you build around.

Garrett Nussmeier (QB – LSU) Might Be the Toughest Evaluation

Garrett Nussmeier is one of the hardest players in the class to rank because the 2025 tape appears heavily influenced by injury. When healthy, he has the arm talent and functional aggression to at least project as a potential NFL starter. When hurt, the mechanics fall apart and the whole profile gets much shakier.

That makes him a classic stash candidate in dynasty. If the draft capital is solid, he becomes interesting in the late first or early second round of Superflex rookie drafts. If NFL teams push him down the board because of medical concerns, dynasty managers will have to decide whether the discount is worth the risk.

He is not safe, but there is enough talent here to justify patience.

Drew Allar (QB – Penn State) and Carson Beck (QB – Miami) Feel More Like Bets on Traits

Drew Allar is still going to attract attention because of his size and arm strength. Carson Beck will draw interest because he has experience in high-level programs and enough functional accuracy underneath to intrigue evaluators. But both feel more like developmental bets than polished fantasy assets right now.

Allar’s biggest issue is consistency. The tools are obvious, but the down-to-down accuracy and feel for the position remain spotty. Beck is more controlled, but his profile feels capped unless he lands in a very specific offensive structure.

In dynasty terms, these are quarterbacks you draft because of possible NFL opportunity, not because they scream fantasy ceiling today.

Taylen Green (QB – Arkansas) Brings the Best Rushing Upside

If you want the quarterback in this class most likely to generate fantasy points with his legs, Taylen Green is the name. At 6-foot-6 with rare athleticism, Green offers the kind of movement skills that can change fantasy outcomes even before he becomes a polished passer.

The problem is that he is still a very raw thrower. Accuracy, timing, and full-field processing remain works in progress. That means his path to becoming a real NFL starter is narrow, but for fantasy purposes, his ceiling is still worth noting. If a team drafts him with a developmental plan and leans into designed movement, dynasty managers will pay attention quickly.

He is risky, but the upside is real enough to justify a swing.

Cole Payton (QB – North Dakota State) Is the Deep Sleeper to Know

Among the later names, Cole Payton might be the most interesting stash. He has size, athleticism, arm talent, and the kind of toolbox that makes dynasty managers dream. He is still raw, and the jump in competition is a real question, but there is enough here for him to rise if the NFL buys in.

He is the type of player who can go from fringe rookie pick to one of the most talked-about taxi squad quarterbacks in a matter of weeks after the draft.

Cade Klubnik (QB – Clemson) and Diego Pavia (QB – Vanderbilt) Are Better in Theory Than in Practice

Cade Klubnik has some rushing ability and enough arm to make every NFL throw, but questions about processing and how he handled more responsibility remain. Diego Pavia is fun, productive, and easy to root for, but the size limitations make him a hard sell as a long-term NFL starter.

Both are worth tracking in deeper formats, but neither should be a priority target unless draft capital changes the conversation.

Honorable Mentions: Joey Aguilar (QB – Tennessee), Jack Strand (QB – Minnesota State), Haynes King (QB – Georgia Tech), Mark Gronowski (QB – Iowa)

This is where the deeper dynasty conversation gets fun.

Joey Aguilar is at least worth monitoring because Tennessee can create visibility fast. Jack Strand has the size and developmental traits that could earn him a long look. Haynes King brings athleticism and enough accuracy to stick in the back of dynasty managers’ minds. Mark Gronowski is the experienced winner whose rushing ability gives him at least some fantasy intrigue.

None of them should be priority rookie draft targets right now, but all four are names to keep on your post-draft watch list.
