When looking for hitting targets in a fantasy baseball points league, always favor on-base percentage (OBP) over batting average. Hits, walks, and hit by pitches all improve a player’s OBP. Those are also the same ways that batters accumulate points.
A lot of top players also have the top OBPs. The top 10 qualified batters in OBPs include eight names that are off the board in the first 30 picks, according to FantasyPros’ average draft position (ADP). Those players are targets in every league.

OBP/Points Leagues Targets
While each of the names below will be taken in a traditional format, they are hitters to target for OBP/points leagues.
Mike Trout (OF – LAA)
While Mike Trout’s average isn’t what it used to be, his OBP is still stellar. Early in his career, Trout was a force in batting average leagues as well as on-base percentage leagues. He’s had six seasons where he batted over .300.
Whether due to injuries or general aging, Trout’s batting averages have been .220 and .232 over the past two seasons. He’s still been able to maintain OBPs of .325 and .359 in those seasons due to his walk rates. Trout has posted a double-digit walk rate since his rookie season in 2011.
Kyle Schwarber (OF – PHI)
While Kyle Schwarber’s batting average has improved over the past few seasons, his OBP has always been stellar. The past two seasons, Schwarber has gotten his batting average to at least .240. It’s a welcome upgrade from his first few seasons in Philadelphia, when he struggled to stay above the Mendoza line.
Fantasy managers in OBP leagues have never been concerned with Schwarber. He has posted double-digit walk rates every season of his career, which has helped him to consistently post OBPs 100 points higher than his batting averages.
Trent Grisham (OF – NYY)
Trent Grisham is back with the New York Yankees after a career season in 2025. Grisham set career bests in runs, home runs and RBI last season. The home run total of 34 was especially notable as he doubled his previous career high.
Grisham’s .235 batting average wasn’t the best of his career, but it was far better than the three straight seasons of sub-.200 batting averages he posted the previous three seasons. Even when he struggled with batting average, Grisham was consistently able to post OBPs 100 points higher due to his walk rates. That was also a career-best mark last season at 14.1%, which pushed his OBP to .348.
