2026 NFL Draft Burning Questions
Which team will draft Ty Simpson?
Some mock drafts have Simpson falling out of the first round, as several quarterback-needy teams addressed the position in free agency. However, quarterbacks always get pushed up come the draft. Therefore, don’t be surprised if Simpson is drafted in the first round. The former Alabama star has met with the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, and Cleveland Browns, while having a private workout with the New York Jets.
Despite all four teams lacking a long-term quarterback, they won’t use their top pick in the NFL Draft on Simpson. However, the Dolphins, Browns, and Jets all have a second first-round pick, ranging from 16th to 30th overall. Yet, I would bet on the Cardinals as the team to draft Simpson, trading up from their early second-round pick (34th overall) into the late first round for the former Alabama star, similar to what the New York Giants did last year for Jaxson Dart.
How many wide receivers will get drafted on Day 1?
While it was more of a discussion earlier this offseason, Carnell Tate has locked himself in as the top wide receiver in the draft class. He will come off the board in the first 10 picks. Meanwhile, Jordyn Tyson and Makai Lemon are first-round locks despite injury and versatility concerns. However, how many other wide receivers will come off the board on the first night of the NFL Draft?
Omar Cooper Jr. has been one of the biggest draft risers and will likely be a first-round pick. After him, there are two potential Day 1 wide receivers: Denzel Boston and K.C. Concepcion, as several teams late in the round need help at the wide receiver position. The Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots all pick in the final nine selections of the first round and could draft a wide receiver.
What is Kenyon Sadiq‘s draft range?
Last year’s draft class had several high-end tight end prospects. Tyler Warren, Colston Loveland, and Harold Fannin Jr. are already three of the top tight ends in the NFL, while Oronde Gadsden and Mason Taylor were impact starters as rookies. Unfortunately, the 2026 tight end draft class lacks last year’s upside and depth. However, Sadiq is a talented prospect and the only tight end likely to be drafted within the first 40 picks.
So, where will the former Oregon star land? Most teams don’t have a massive need at the tight end position. Yet, Sadiq’s draft range starts at ninth overall with the Kansas City Chiefs and ends with the Miami Dolphins at 30th overall. However, he is unlikely to land in either of those spots. Instead, Sadiq is more likely to come off the board in the teens, whether to the Baltimore Ravens at 14th overall or to a team trading up for the former Oregon star.
Who will be the first defensive lineman drafted?
The 2026 NFL Draft has more talent and depth on defense than offense. There could be up to eight edge rushers to come off the board on the first night of the NFL Draft. Furthermore, eight defensive backs, including three safeties, are potential first-round picks. However, the defensive line class lacks a clear-cut first-round level prospect. Furthermore, there is no consensus on the top defensive lineman in the draft class.
Unlike last year, when Mason Graham was the clear-cut top defensive lineman in the draft class and a top-five pick, the 2026 defensive line class lacks an elite prospect. Peter Woods, Caleb Banks, Kayden McDonald, and Christen Miller each could be the first defensive lineman off the board and a potential first-round pick. However, none of them are guaranteed to get drafted on Day 1. Furthermore, team fit will play a massive role in which defensive lineman is the first one off the board.
