Fantasy Baseball 10 Burning Questions
1. What’s up with Taylor Ward‘s lack of power?
Taylor Ward entered Tuesday’s action with a .312/.412/.459 triple slash line with only one home run in 132 plate appearances. This is a surprising start to the season, considering Ward went yard 36 times in 2025.
However, there’s no need to worry. The plate discipline looks great (15.9% walk rate, 14.4% strikeout rate). It’s only a matter of time before we get a power binge.
2. Did we get duped by Matt McLain‘s hot spring?
Matt McLain was tearing the cover off the ball in the spring, which caused him to shoot up draft boards in late March. So far, the results have been unimpressive, including a .208/.339/.327 triple slash with two home runs in 121 plate appearances.
I recommend staying patient with McLain, as the walk rate looks great (14.9%), while the barrel rate is respectable (9.7%). I’d look to buy low.
3. Is it time to worry about Lawrence Butler?
Lawrence Butler is off to a poor start, slashing .186/.263/.279 with two home runs in 95 plate appearances. Even worse, Butler has been sitting quite often against lefties.
With the playing time taking a hit, along with the emergence of Carlos Cortes, it’s time to worry about Butler.
4. What’s up with Luis Robert Jr.?
I came into the season high on Luis Robert Jr. I thought the change of scenery would be huge for him. So far, the results have been abysmal, including a .224/.327/.329 triple slash with two homers in 98 plate appearances.
I recommend being patient with Robert, since he’s a streaky hitter. The entire Mets offense has been bad to start the year. Give them some time.
5. When is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. going to start showing his power?
I thought that Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s power surge in the postseason would carry over to the regular season, but that hasn’t been the case yet, as he has only two homers in 118 plate appearances.
However, I wouldn’t worry at all, as he came into Tuesday’s action with a .330/.415/.447 triple slash. It’s only a matter of time before he taps into his power.
6. Will Kyle Bradish get it going?
Kyle Bradish has been a major disappointment so far this season. The underlying metrics don’t look good at all, including a 4.44 SIERA and a 12.5% walk rate.
I don’t expect things to change in his next turn, since it’s against the Yankees, but I’m still hopeful that Bradish will eventually get on track. Hold the line here. Don’t sell low.
7. What do we make of Michael McGreevy?
Michael McGreevy is outperforming his underlying metrics right now, as his 2.97 ERA is much lower than his 6.14 xERA. This is the classic case of a pitcher on a hot run, sort of like Andrew Abbott last year.
Regression is likely to hit hard, but in the right matchups, McGreevy looks worth starting.
8. Is Davis Martin for real?
Davis Martin continues to crush for the White Sox. He is coming off a start against the Angels in which he allowed just one earned run while striking out seven across 5.2 innings.
Keep riding the wave until regression hits because Martin has been rolling right now.
9. Is Peter Lambert for real?
Peter Lambert is an intriguing pitcher for the Astros. He has a 2.74 SIERA and a 33.3% strikeout rate. You have to love how many punchouts he’s been able to rack up.
If Lambert is still on your waiver wire, pick him up to see if he can keep it going. That change-up he throws has been nasty.
10. How should we value Trey Yesavage?
You have to be impressed with Trey Yesavage’s 5.1 scoreless innings in his season debut. Even in a game where he didn’t have his best stuff, he was able to blank the Red Sox.
Perhaps I was a bit too low on Yesavage after finding out the Blue Jays would take it slow with their young righty. He looks legit.
