Wednesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (4/29)
Cristopher Sanchez is an unstoppable force at home. According to FanGraphs, in 121 innings at home since last season, Sanchez has recorded a 1.79 ERA, 2.39 xFIP, 0.97 WHIP, 5.3% walk rate, 31.1% strikeout rate and 59.3% groundball rate.
Sanchez’s excellence at home complements San Francisco’s mediocre road numbers. The Giants are 13th in wRC+ (97) with a 20.4% strikeout rate on the road. Additionally, Sanchez’s betting info is rock-solid. The Phillies are -140 favorites, and the game’s total is a pitcher-friendly seven runs.
Tarik Skubal hasn’t pitched at an otherworldly level this year, but he’s still pitched like an ace. In six starts spanning 36.1 innings in 2026, Skubal has put up the following stats.
- 3 wins
- 4 quality starts
- 2.72 ERA
- 3.03 xERA
- 2.77 xFIP
- 3.00 SIERA
- 0.99 WHIP
- 4.2% walk rate
- 26.8% strikeout rate
- 13.6% SwStr%
- 29.1% CSW%
- 116 stuff+
- 107 location+
- 121 pitching+
Skubal’s matchup isn’t a cupcake. Nevertheless, his betting info is favorable. The Tigers are -144 favorites, and the game’s total is eight runs.
Gamers shouldn’t venture beyond Cristopher Sanchez and Tarik Skubal at FanDuel, and locating a palatable SP2 option at DraftKings wasn’t fun. The pitchers beyond the two lefty aces are flawed. So, why not save salary on an undesirable SP2?
Tomoyuki Sugano has a cheap salary. He also has a tasty matchup. The Reds are 27th in wRC+ (85) with a 24.6% strikeout rate versus righties and 21st in wRC+ (96) with a 26.1% strikeout rate at home this season. Sugano’s 3.42 ERA in five starts spanning 26.1 innings this season is a fluke, but the Reds are bad enough that they could allow him to avoid regression for at least one more start.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
JR Ritchie is making only his second start in the Majors after holding the Nationals to two runs on five hits (two homers) and two walks, with seven strikeouts. Ritchie had a 2.38 ERA in 16 career Triple-A starts. However, Ritchie’s 4.01 FIP was less flattering, and his 11.4% walk rate was unimpressive.
The Tigers have some firepower to make Ritchie’s second start in The Show a miserable one. Seven of Detroit’s projected starters have a 117 wRC+ or better against righties this season as of Tuesday night. The Tigers are also an affordable stack, which is critical because of Sanchez’s and Skubal’s salaries.
Logan Webb isn’t having a banner campaign — 4.86 ERA and 4.43 xERA in six starts.
On a weak pitching slate beyond the two lefty aces, Webb might soak up more interest from DFS gamers than he should, making for a compelling case to get leverage in GPPs by stacking the Phillies. Philadelphia has a blend of high-end talent and some bargain-salary options.
