Welcome to our weekly fantasy baseball risers and fallers column. In this article, I’ll identify three risers and three fallers based on what transpired over the previous week.
Given that we’re a few months into the season, there are more options to choose from. We know how managers are deploying their players, with some surprisingly receiving less playing time than initially expected. We also have a few young hitters who are making their presence felt immediately.

Ceddanne Rafaela (2B, OF – BOS)
Ceddanne Rafaela is currently slashing .281/.326/.433 with eight home runs and 13 stolen bases in 389 plate appearances heading into Wednesday’s action. After starting the season at the bottom of the order, Rafaela is now entrenched in the No. 2 spot for the red-hot Red Sox. It’s wheels up the rest of the way.
Wyatt Langford (OF – TEX)
Wyatt Langford has a .286/.330/.518 slash line with 11 home runs and seven stolen bases in 212 plate appearances. He’s been mashing in July, slashing .324/.359/.595 with three home runs in 39 plate appearances. This feels like the case of a 24-year-old outfielder who is finally staying healthy and blossoming into a legitimate star.
Spencer Torkelson (1B – DET)
Spencer Torkelson has been underwhelming overall, slashing .205/.299/.413 with 18 home runs in 392 plate appearances. However, he homered twice on July 18th, setting up his annual second-half surge. He is a classic slow starter who always tends to turn it up in the second half. I’d look to buy low before it’s too late.

Kyle Tucker (OF – LAD)
Kyle Tucker continues to be the most disappointing free agent signing in recent memory, slashing .238/.332/.363 with seven home runs and six stolen bases in 397 plate appearances. Things aren’t getting better, either, as he has a .235/.316/.275 slash line in July so far. It’s looking like a lost season for Tucker.
Jarren Duran (OF – BOS)
Jarren Duran is having an abysmal season for the Red Sox, slashing .191/.254/.340 with 13 home runs and 14 stolen bases. He hasn’t gotten much better in July, slashing .159/.273/.250 with one home run in 56 plate appearances. Perhaps this is the case of a player who desperately needs a change of scenery.
Freddie Freeman (1B – LAD)
Freddie Freeman is having a respectable season, slashing .284/.368/.472 with 15 home runs in 429 plate appearances, but he’s hit a wall in July, slashing .237/.292/.356. It’s clear that he is no longer a high-end fantasy asset. Freeman is more of a name at this point of his career.
