Closer News & Notes

  • Cade Smith continues to lead the MLB with 26 saves.
  • Bryan BakerJhoan DuranRiley O’Brien and Mason Miller have 20+ saves.
  • Louis Varland and Jacob Latz lead the MLB in saves over the past 30 days with 10 each.
  • Aroldis Chapman remains the top closer to monitor heading into the trade deadline. He looks to be past the hamstring injury he had been dealing with.
  • Emilio Pagan was activated from the injured list earlier this week. He steps right back into his closer role in the Reds’ bullpen.
  • Kenley Jansen allowed five runs (four earned) across his final two appearances to end June. He remains the Tigers’ closer, but his role could be a bit up in the air.
  • Ryan Helsley was placed on the IL on Friday with right elbow discomfort. He does not have a clear timetable for his return.
