Notes
Very good SP that could break out in 2020. 60 games rather than the long, drawn out grind of 162 could help establish him as one of the best in the business on the bump without having to prove he can maintain his Ace stuff over the durability test that is a full 162. I bet he is overdraft in 2021, but in 2020 he could be a #1.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
I expect more but 200K potential in a 162 season still gets my attention. I am higher than most on Nola but I see potential here.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
The Padres actually managed to have Chris Paddack on an innings limit that didn't totally drive fantasy managers mad. He showed that he could hold up over the course of a full season, and he more than performed to the lofty expectations that were thrust upon him when he made the Padres Opening Day roster. Paddack is working on developing his curveball, and if he's able to throw that with more regularity, he's going to have three plus-pitches. We haven't even begun to see his upside."
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Aaron Nola is one of the more polarizing players in fantasy baseball, but if you're looking for a dependable pitcher who can give you not just volume, but good volume, you shouldn't be too quick to discount what Nola brings to the table. He consistently goes six and seven innings, and he's one year removed from being a legitimate Cy Young candidate. If the baseball returns to its normal form, you should see Nola return to that Cy Young level, too.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Paddack earned his "biggest spring training breakout" award with an outstanding season, albeit one capped with an innings limit. The reins should be taken off a bit this year, which should allow Paddack to remain in a groove and build on his outstanding 2019 numbers. His fastball and changeup are simpy elite, and if he can continue to refine his curveball, he could develop into a true fantasy ace.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Nola simply wasn't very good in 2019. His control took a major step back and batters consistently made better contact against him, particularly against his fastball. Whether it was an aberration for the youngster after two years of major growth, or whether perhaps Nola isn't as good as previously thought, is an open question. But given how drastically his control dipped, fantasy owners would be wise to give Nola somewhat of a pass for his 2019. He can't be drafted as an ace, but as a second starter? Go for it.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Allowed more than two walks just twice in 26 starts, resulting in a 0.98 WHIP for the season
Brendan Tuma - BettingPros
Started slow and finished poorly. However, if you're a believer you can cling to a four-month stretch where Nola posted a 2.96 ERA with 10.2 K/9
