Nelson Cruz signs with the Mariners

ESPN's Enrique Rojas is reporting that free agent OF/DH, Nelson Cruz and the Seattle Mariners have agreed in principal to a 4-year, $57 million dollar contract. According to the Dominican newspaper Rojas cites, Cruz is scheduled to leave for the United States shortly for a physical and to finalize the deal. (ESPN)

Fantasy Impact:

The change in ballpark could have some effect on the raw home run totals, but make no mistake about it, Cruz's power is elite and will play in any ballpark. A return to 40-home runs was unlikely regardless of his home ballpark, if for no other reason than the fact he's only had two seasons in which he's registered more than 475 at-bats. Presumably Cruz will hit 4th in the Mariners' lineup, between Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager, giving the slugger ample opportunity for runs and RBI. Cruz will continue to be a very reliable power source heading into the 2015 season.
