Fantasy Impact:

The addition of Justin Ruggiano provides the Seattle Mariners with an outfielder who has hit left-handed pitching quite well during his career. In 443 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers, Ruggiano has a .266/.329/.508 slash line (.836 OPS). For context, Logan Morrison was the Mariners' best hitter against southpaws last season, posting a .846 OPS over 95 plate appearances. Robinson Cano was next with a .746 OPS against left-handers. While it appears the Mariners will likely add a platoon-mate for Ruggiano, the fact remains he should see playing time whenever a left-handed pitcher is on the mound. For fantasy owners in deeper leagues, especially those with daily line-ups, Ruggiano is a decent bet for moderate power (8-12 home runs), while providing near league-average on base/batting average production.
