Phillies eyeing Rafael Furcal as an everyday SS

by Jonathan Ebanks | Sat, Dec 20th 5:19pm EST

Reporter Jerry Crasnick reported that the Philadelphia Phillies are "kicking the tires" on Marlins' infielder Rafael Furcal as an everyday option at shortstop. Furcal is currently playing in the winter league for Aguilas in the Dominican Republic. (Section215.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Furcal was supposed to be the Marlins' 2B in 2014, but only played 9 games due to injuries, and that's after missing 2013 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 37-year-old Furcal will likely never be at 100 percent for the rest of his career, so the Phillies' interest in him isn't necessarily focused on Furcal's skill set, but on Phillies' SS Freddy Galvis' inability to be an everyday SS because of his very poor hitting.
