Masahiro Tanaka is taking it slow this spring

New York Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka (partial tear - right ulnar collateral ligament) will come to camp this spring with a different mindset concerning how he ramps up his pitch count reports Brad Lefton of the Wall Street Journal. “Right from the beginning of camp last year, all the pitchers were throwing in the bullpen, but they were just easing into it, so there’s really no reason for me to push myself to throw full throttle before I even get there this time,” Tanaka said. Fantasy Impact:

With his 2014 season interrupted, Tanaka threw just 136.1 innings. However, those innings were fantastic – 13 wins, 141 K, 2.77 ERA, and a 1.06 WHIP. Tanaka’s situation presents fantasy owners with a dilemma – draft him as the elite talent he is and hope for a complete season, or sit back for a few rounds and hope he falls to a spot where a potential injury would not significantly impact their team's season. Tanaka currently holds an average draft pick position of 88 according to FantasyPros’ consensus as of 2/11/15.
