Fellow Cubs catcher Yan Gomes had landed on the IL with a potential concussion but it's rookie Miguel Amaya making his MLB debut and hitting ninth in Barnhart's stead Thursday afternoon. The veteran Barnhart is scuffling at the plate again this season, hitting just .184 with zero homers and a .449 OPS across 42 plate appearances to this point.
