Cade Povich tagged with loss despite strong finish

by Bruno Mulé | Orioles Correspondent | Wed, May 7th 2:08pm EDT

Cade Povich (1-3) was handed the loss Tuesday against the Twins, after a tough third inning undid an otherwise decent outing. Though Povich started strong, facing the minimum through two frames, a five-run outburst by Minnesota in the third proved decisive, punctuated by a two-run home run from Carlos Correa. Povich would then settle down, retiring the next nine hitters he faced, finishing his six innings having allowed five runs on six hits. The left-hander also struck out four and did not walk a batter, generating 10 swinging strikes over 103 pitches (63 strikes).

Fantasy Impact:

Despite the strong finish, Povich couldn't escape the loss, his third of the season. This marks the second time the 25-year-old has surrendered at least five runs in a start. Through 35.2 innings, he carries a 5.55 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP, accompanied by a 29:12 K:BB ratio. He is scheduled to start on the road against the Angels this weekend.
