Luis Campusano in line for Padres backup catcher role
by Bruno Mulé | Padres Correspondent | Wed, Mar 18th 1:14pm EDT
Elias Diaz and Martin Maldonado are no longer with San Diego, clearing a path for Campusano despite a rocky big-league track record. He posted a 1.024 OPS with 24 home runs and 92 RBI across 466 Triple-A plate appearances last season but went 0-for-21 with a 6:11 BB:K over 10 games at the MLB level. His spring hasn't helped, as he's slashing .172/.250/.241 with no RBI through 13 games. (MLB.com)
Fantasy Impact:
Campusano is nonetheless expected to open the season on the 26-man roster as the backup to primary catcher Freddy Fermin.
