Martinez spent nine years in the majors with the Cardinals, making two All-Star appearances and finishing with a 62-52 record, 31 saves, 3.74 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 274 appearances (139 starts). He had been pitching in the Mexican League for the past three seasons.
