The Rays needed room on their 40-man roster to add recently acquired utility man Jorge Mateo, leading to the decision on Martin. The 25-year-old righty has spent most of the year at Triple-A Durham, but he has posted a 3.97 ERA across 11 1/3 innings for the Rays as well.
