Adonis Medina signs with Nationals

Adonis Medina has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Nationals.

Fantasy Impact

A consensus Top-100 prospect in the Philadelphia system several years ago, Medina is now a well-traveled 27 year old. He made 12 starts for the Kia Tigers in Korea last year after making 14 relief appearances for the Mets in 2022. Over 35 1/3 career MLB innings, Medina has posted a 5.35 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and 27-to-13 K/BB ratio. He will compete for a spot in the Nationals' pitching staff this spring.

Adonis Medina earns first career save on Sunday

Adonis Medina pitched a scoreless 10th inning on Sunday against the Dodgers with one strikeout to earn his first career save.

Fantasy Impact

WIth the Mets' bullpen running on fumes and more established relievers already used or unavailable, it was up to Medina to hold a one-run lead with a ghost runner on against the heart of the Dodger's lineup. He did so beautifully, allowing only Trea Turner to reach on catcher's interference. Medina has a 4.66 ERA and although he performed admirably here, it's highly unlikely he'd see another save chance this season absent similar unforeseen circumstances. It's a great story but it's not relevant for fantasy purposes.

Adonis Medina has contract purchased by Phillies

Adonis Medina had his contract purchased from the Phillies' alternate site and will make his MLB-debut on Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Fantasy Impact

Medina is one of the Phils' best pitching prospects and will make his Major League debut against the Jays on Sunday as Philadelphia fights to hold on to a playoff spot. He put up an unimpressive 4.94 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and a 82:41 K/BB ratio over 105 2/3 innings in Double-A ball last season. Mickey Moniak was optioned to the team's alternate site in a corresponding move.
