Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke says Andrew Benintendi (rib) is done for the season.
Additonally, Benintendi was transferred to the 45-day IL. It's the end to a short-but-brutal 2020 season for the 26-year-old. Coming off a down year in 2019 many were hoping the former top prospect could bounce back. Instead, things only got worse. Benintendi finishes with a .103 average and a .442 OPS in 14 games.
Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke says Andrew Benintendi (rib) might not return this season.
It's not a huge surprise as the most recent update we had before this one was that it was going to be a while before Benintendi came back. The 26-year-old unfortunately continued to regress this summer, hitting a woeful .103 before getting injured. He has had enough success at the big league level that we shouldn't give up on him entirely.
Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke says "it's going to be a while" before Andrew Benintendi (rib) returns.
Benintendi is dealing with a rib cage strain that he suffered while running the bases a couple of weeks ago. He was a disaster at the plate before going down, hitting just .103 with a .442 OPS.
Red Sox' manager Ron Roenicke admitted Saturday that Andrew Benintendi (ribcage) is not close to a return according to Bill Koch of the Providence Journal.
Benintendi landed on the IL on August 12th with a strained right rib cage, and the severity of the strain will apparently require him to be sidelined for more than 10 days. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on updates regarding the 26-year-old outfielder.
Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke says Andrew Benintendi (rib) will be "out a while."
Benintendi injured his ribcage while running the bases last Tuesday. It was already reported that he would miss more than the minimum 10 days, but it now sounds like an issue that could stretch into September and beyond. He can be dropped in all redraft fantasy leagues.
