Austin Pruitt traded to Astros

The Astros acquired Austin Pruitt from the Rays on Thursday night in a three-player trade made to bolster their rotation. Houston sent a pair of Minor Leaguers, right-hander Peyton Battenfield and outfielder Cal Stevenson, to Tampa Bay in the deal.

Fantasy Impact

Pruitt will be competing for a spot in the Astros' 2020 rotation with a group behind Justin Verlander, Zack Greinke and Lance McCullers Jr. That group includes José Urquidy, Brad Peacock, Framber Valdez, Josh James and prospects Forrest Whitley and Cristian Javier. His 2019 season included a 4.40 ERA over 14 games (two starts) for the Rays.

Austin Pruitt strikes out six in no-decision

Austin Pruitt gave up four hits while striking out six over 5 1/3 scoreless innings Friday night against the Indians. He didn't factor into the decision.

Fantasy Impact

Pruitt looked good on Friday and now has a 4.78 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with a 33:9 K:BB over 37 2/3 innings this season for Tampa Bay. The 30-year-old righty is worth a speculative add in AL-only formats if owners need pitching.

Austin Pruitt picks up the win against the Padres

Austin Pruitt picked up the win as the primary pitcher against the Padres on Monday, giving up one earned run on five hits over four innings, striking out four with no walks in a 10-4 victory for the Rays.

Fantasy Impact

Pruitt is now 2-0 and lowered his ERA from 5.16 to 4.73 with the effort, to go along with a 1.39 WHIP and a 21:8 K:BB across 26 2/3 innings. Pruitt can be left on the waiver wire in fantasy leagues.

Austin Pruitt struggles mightly against Orioles

Austin Pruitt allowed eight runs (six earned) in 2/3 of an inning against the Orioles on Friday. He gave up six hits and two walks while striking out one. His season ERA was raised to 4.97.

Fantasy Impact

Pruitt was absolutely destroyed by the Orioles. Luckily Pruitt is not fantasy relevant and did not lose any weeks for many fantasy owners. He will continue to see work throughout the year.

Austin Pruitt receives his second save of the season against Baltimore

Austin Pruitt pitch 1 1/3 scoreless innings against Baltimore on Thursday. He struck out three and earned the save. He lowered his season ERA to 4.08.

Fantasy Impact

Pruitt is usually used in a long relief role. Today he was used as the closer because the Rays bullpen is depleted. They have used three bullpen days in their previous four games. Chris Archer is their only main stay starting pitcher until Jacob Faria returns, hopefully this weekend.
