Barry Zito made his first big league appearance of the year on Sunday against the Astros. He pitched one inning, allowing two runs off of two hits and one walk.
Fantasy Impact
The damage came off of a Colby Rasmus two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. It appears Zito will work out of the bullpen for the time being. The former All Star is no longer a useful fantasy pitcher.
Barry Zito has been called up to the Majors after spending most of the season pitching for Triple-A Nashville. Oakland hasn't announced what Zito's role for the team will be just yet.
Fantasy Impact
There is a chance he could make a start against his former teammate Tim Hudson when the A's take on the Giants next week. Although there isn't much here in the way of fantasy implications, it would make a nice story as Hudson, Zito, and Mark Mulder formed a big three atop the A's rotation in the early 2000's.
Barry Zito had a rough outing on Tuesday in Cactus League action. He went four innings, giving up seven runs and striking out two. He also allowed three home runs.
Fantasy Impact
This should all but put an end to Zito's bid to become the A's fifth starter. Zito has put together a good spring, but the competition for the spot has been strong. It will be interesting to see if another team takes a look at him if he doesn't make Oakland's final roster.
Barry Zito had another solid spring out as he pitched four scoreless innings. He struck out two and issued three walks.
Fantasy Impact
Zito was looking like a longshot to make the rotation at the beginning of the spring. Now he is coming off of eleven straight scoreless innings and could very well be the Athletics fifth starter. He has been a nice comeback story thus far.
Barry Zito was in vintage form in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Brewers. He pitched four innings, giving up no runs and striking out one.
Fantasy Impact
Zito is still fighting for a spot in the rotation. He's made things interesting with this most recent performance. Stay tuned as he continues his quest to return to the major leagues.
