Blaine Boyer allowed a hit in the ninth inning against the White Sox on Sunday, but still secured the Royals' seventh win of the year. Closer Kelvin Herrera had pitched the previous three days in a row, so Boyer got the call to preserve the lead. It was his fifth save in 12 years in the majors.
Fantasy Impact
Other than giving some insight as to who might get the nod should Herrera be unavailable, Boyer, and his 15 ERA, is irrelevant in fantasy. The Royals would likely prefer to have reliever Brandon Maurer in the role, but he's still working out some kinks in the minors.
Blaine Boyer pitched a scoreless eighth inning on Thursday afternoon, allowing one hit and striking out two Dodgers. It was his third straight scoreless appearance.
Fantasy Impact
Boyer lowered his ERA on the season to 3.38 on the season after Thursday's outing. He has a less than desirable 15/10 K/BB rate over 37.1 innings for the Brewers this season.
Blaine Boyer allowed three runs while pitching in the tenth inning Saturday against the Cubs to pick up the loss.
Fantasy Impact
Despite allowing three runs, only two of them were earned, keeping Boyer's solid 2.86 ERA down. He doesn't pick up many saves, so he isn't incredibly useful in fantasy leagues, but he's a decent reliever pick-up in deep leagues.
Blaine Boyer pitched the eighth inning Wednesday against the Pirates. He gave up one run on two hits and a walk.
Fantasy Impact
Boyer had gone 18 innings without giving up a run until Andrew McCutchen took him deep with one out in the bottom of the eighth. The home run tied the game at 3-3, but he was able to finish the inning and the Twins would go on to win in extras.
Blaine Boyer pitched a perfect eighth inning Saturday to earn his sixth hold of the season and extend his scoreless streak to 16 innings.
Fantasy Impact
Boyer has been lights out over the last month and hasn't allowed a run since April 12th. He's a solid option in any league that values holds.
