Braden Shewmake has been designated for assignment by the New York Yankees. The move was made to open a spot for Oswaldo Bido, whom they claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels.
Fantasy Impact
Shewmake, the 21st overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, has not seen much success at the major league level. The utility infielder made his debut with Atlanta in 2023 and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in two games. He got more of an opportunity with the White Sox in 2024, but slashed .125/.134/.203 in 67 plate appearances. He spent last year with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees' organization and batted .244 with four home runs and 15 stolen bases in 85 games. Once a decent prospect, Shewmake is now 28 and will look to latch on somewhere else to try to kickstart his career.
The Yankees have optioned Braden Shewmake to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Fantasy Impact
Shewmake struggled during his limited playing time this spring. The versatile infielder will look to get the bat going in the minors.
The Yankees have claimed Braden Shewmake off waivers from the Royals.
Fantasy Impact
Shewmake is now with his third team since the start of the new year. He will likely serve as a defensive depth option in Triple-A.
The Royals designated Braden Shewmake for assignment.
Fantasy Impact
The Royals needed to open a spot on the 40-man roster with the signing of Carlos Estevez. Shewmake would remain in the Royals organization if he clears waivers.
Braden Shewmake is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with a left lateral ankle sprain.
Fantasy Impact
Shewmake had been one of the top candidates to earn a bench role in the infield for the White Sox. He'll be sidelined through early-to-mid April at the earliest.
