Brandon Pfaadt outstanding in lengthy bullpen outing Sunday

Brandon Pfaadt pitched the final 6.1 innings on Sunday and allowed just a run on four hits, walked two, and struck out three during Arizona's 10-4 loss to Toronto.

Fantasy Impact

Pfaadt was sensational on Sunday in, not only limiting the Blue Jays' onslaught, but also saving the Arizona bullpen. Ryne Nelson lasted just one-third of an inning and then Andrew Hoffmann pitched 2.1 innings before Pfaadt entered to pitch the final 6.1 frames. Pfaadt was shifted to the bullpen earlier in the week and this was his first relief appearance of the year. He has a 4.70 ERA on the season and a 1.26 WHIP through 23 innings. Sunday's outing could lead to another opportunity for Pfaddt to re-enter the rotation at some point.

Brandon Pfaadt moving to bullpen

Brandon Pfaadt will transition into a relief role for the Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Impact

Veteran righty Merrill Kelly (back) will be activated off the IL to make his season debut for the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. With that, Pfaadt will make the move to the bullpen. The 27-year-old hurler has started 65 games for the Diamondbacks over the last two seasons, logging nearly 360 innings in total. Pfaadt has made his first three appearances this season as a starter, but he has labored to a 5.94 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through 16 2/3 innings.

Brandon Pfaadt suffers loss to Phillies Saturday

Brandon Pfaadt suffered his first loss of the season on Saturday after allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in six innings in a 4-3 loss to Philadelphia. Pfaadt walked three and struck out six.

Fantasy Impact

Pfaadt dropped to 0-1 in three starts this season and pitched well on Saturday - other than the third inning. Philadelphia scored all four of its runs in the third on back-to-back homers from Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper as the Phillies erased a 2-0 deficit. All told, Pfaadt allowed four runs on three hits, a walk, and a hit batter in the third inning. In the other five innings, he gave up no runs on two hits and two walks. He struck out a season-high six batters on Saturday - a good sign considering he had entered with just five punchouts in his first two starts combined. Pfaadt has gotten off to a bit of a slow start this season as he sports a 5.94 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP through 16.2 innings. He'll look for his first win of the year in his next scheduled start, currently lined up against the Blue Jays on Friday.

Brandon Pfaadt earns no-decision Sunday

Brandon Pfaadt allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 4.2 innings on Sunday during Arizona's 6-5, 10-inning, victory over Atlanta.

Fantasy Impact

Pfaadt (0-0) lowered his season ERA to 6.75 despite not being able to escape the fifth inning on Sunday. He has pitched to a pair of no-decisions to begin the 2026 campaign. Pfaadt's numbers are not terribly impressive through two starts as he has allowed eight runs on 12 hits with a 5:3 K:BB ratio through 10.2 innings. He'll look to improve on those figures in his next start, tentatively scheduled against the Phillies this upcoming weekend.

Brandon Pfaadt gets no-decision in season debut Tuesday

Brandon Pfaadt allowed five runs on six hits in six innings in his season debut on Tuesday. The righthander walked one and struck out three in the no-decision.

Fantasy Impact

All of Detroit's offense against Pfaadt came in the third inning as the Tigers scored all five of their runs and had all six of their hits. Otherwise, Pfaadt was nearly perfect in his other five frames, allowing only a one-out walk in the sixth. He left trailing 5-1, but Arizona scored six in the inning to take him off the hook. Pfaadt won 13 games for the Diamondbacks last season, but also posted a 5.25 ERA in 33 starts. He's tentatively lined up to pitch at home against the Braves in his next start this weekend.
