Bubba Chandler allowed three runs on three hits over five innings with six strikeouts and four walks in a no-decision on Wednesday against the Cardinals.
Fantasy Impact
Chandler continues to have trouble with his command, walking at least three hitters for the third time in his last five starts. He has also shown flashes of his huge upside in the same span. He'll take the mound against a tough Diamondbacks lineup next.
Bubba Chandler was roughed up on Thursday as he allowed six runs on seven hits in four innings as the Pirates lost to the Rangers, 6-1.
Fantasy Impact
Chandler was unable to build off of his best start of the season against the Rays his last time out and, unfortunately, endured his worst start of the year on Thursday. He allowed two runs in the third and four in the fourth and was plagued by the home run - serving up a two-run, inside-the-park homer to Evan Carter in the third and a three-run blast to Corey Seager in the fourth. The young righthander has not gotten on track this season and will take a 1-2 record with a 4.85 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP into his next scheduled start against the Cardinals on Tuesday.
Bubba Chandler earned his first victory of the season on Friday as he allowed one run on three hits, walked one, and struck out three as the Pirates defeated the Rays, 5-1.
Fantasy Impact
Chandler registered his longest, and best outing of the season on Friday as he allowed only four baserunners in his six innings and threw 62 of his 90 pitches for strikes. The only blemish came in his final inning as Chandler Simpson reached on an infield single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then scored on a single from Junior Caminero. After a walk to Jonathan Aranda, he retired Yandy Diaz on an infield pop-up to get through six innings. Chandler struggled with his command in his first two starts as he walked 10 batters in 8.2 innings. However, in his last two starts, Chandler has walked three in 11.1 innings. The young righthander is 1-1 with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in 20 innings and will look to continue his strong work against the Rangers next week.
Bubba Chandler went 5.1 innings on Sunday and allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts as the Pirates dropped a 7-6 decision to the Cubs in Chicago.
Fantasy Impact
Chandler was staked to a 5-0 lead after two innings before allowing two runs in the third and one in the fifth. The young righthander left with a 6-3 lead, but the Pirates' bullpen could not hang on. After free passes hurt Chandler in his first two starts, he showed signs of better command on Sunday as he walked only two batters in 5.1 innings. However, the long ball bit him - he allowed a pair of solo home runs in the third to Dansby Swanson and Moises Ballesteros. Chandler is still in search of his first win of the season - he is 0-1 with a respectable 3.86 ERA through three starts. However, his WHIP of 1.57 and his 14:12 K:BB ratio are not what the Pirates and fantasy owners expected to begin the year. Chandler is lined up to face the Rays on Friday.
Bubba Chandler was saddled with the loss on Monday as he lasted 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on five hits, walked four, and struck out four.
Fantasy Impact
Chandler (0-1), who walked just four batters in 31.1 innings with the Pirates last season, walked four on Monday after walking six in his season debut against Cincinnati last Tuesday. Two of the four walks he issued on Monday came in to score. The young righthander struggled with command in the spring and now has allowed 10 walks in 8.2 innings through two starts in the regular season. Chandler, who has a 3.12 ERA but a 1.73 WHIP, is lined up to make his next start on Sunday against the Cubs.
