Utilityman Carlos Mendoza has been reassigned to minor league camp by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Fantasy Impact
Mendoza, who plays second base, third base, or left field, went 7-for-17 with a 3:2 BB:K ratio in 15 games this spring. He came up in the Tigers' organization and combined to hit .287 with Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo last season. He has sensational discipline at the plate, posting a .413 career on-base percentage with more walks than strikeouts in his five minor league seasons. He'll likely open the year in Triple-A Buffalo and, because he can play multiple positions, could make his way to Toronto at some point this season.
Carlos Mendoza has signed a minor league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. The contract includes an invite to spring training.
Fantasy Impact
Mendoza has spent his entire six-year professional career in the Tigers' organization and has yet to make his major league debut. Last season, he split time between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo and batted a combined .287 with seven home runs and 12 stolen bases in 97 games. Mendoza is a career .278 hitter with 105 stolen bases in 504 minor league games. He'll provide organizational depth with the Blue Jays.
