Chad Qualls scheduled to begin rehab assignment

Chad Qualls (illness) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Albuquerque.

Fantasy Impact

Qualls missed three weeks with a stomach ailment.

Chad Qualls records his eighth hold of the season

Chad Qualls was called upon in the eighth inning and walked two batters, but managed to escape without any damage done, recording his eighth hold of the season as the Astros beat the Rockies 8-5.

Fantasy Impact

Qualls has had his struggles this season, owning a 4.84 ERA in 22.1 IP, so his fantasy value is non-existent currently. He will get a spot-save occasionally, recording four this season, but Luke Gregerson is safe in his position as the Astros closer.

Chad Qualls record his second blown save

Chad Qualls pitched the eighth inning with the Astros leading the White Sox 3-2. Pinch-hitter Gordon Beckham hit a solo home run off of Qualls tying the game at three. Chicago beat Houston 6-3 in extra innings.

Fantasy Impact

Qualls has been a reliable option out of the Astros bullpen, owning a 2.79 ERA after the game last night. Used primarily as the eighth inning set-up man, Qualls does not hold enough fantasy value to warrant roster consideration.

Chad Qualls pitches a clean inning

Chad Qualls pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out one batter, as the Astros beat the Athletics 6-4.

Fantasy Impact

Qualls has lowered his ERA to 2.93 on the season, while picking up his fifth hold. Qualls might not be Houston's closer, but he is trusted with regular eighth inning opportunities and has succeeded in that role. The veteran reliever's fantasy value will only become relevant in standard formats if he receives regular save chances, until then monitor the Astros bullpen situation.

Chad Qualls picks up the win in relief

Chad Qualls pitched the eighth inning for Houston, not allowing a base-runner, while striking out one batter in his first win of the season.

Fantasy Impact

Qualls watched George Springer hit a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Astros the lead and putting himself in line for the win. Qualls is one of the more trusted relievers out of Houston's bullpen and has looked solid in 2015, with a 1-2 record owning a 3.65 ERA, while chipping in three saves. Without a lot of save opportunities, his fantasy value is tempered, but he is effective in formats that feature many relief pitchers.
