Charlie Condon is expected to compete for the Colorado Rockies’ everyday first base position during spring training.
Fantasy Impact
With the Rockies waiving Warming Bernabel on Saturday, the first base position is wide open. New Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes have noted there is talent within the organization, suggesting they won’t be highly active in free agency. Condon, the Rockies’ No. 2 overall prospect, figures to have a strong chance to compete for the starting first base role after slashing .286/.376/.444 with 14 home runs across 433 plate appearances in his first minor league season. He also participated in the Arizona Fall League, where he slashed .337/.439/.434 with one home run across 98 plate appearances.
Charlie Condon was diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture in his left wrist.
Fantasy Impact
Condon suffered the injury Thursday while diving for a ball in the outfield. Tests revealed no ligament damage, avoiding the need for surgery. He'll wear a splint for four weeks and resume baseball activities in six weeks. When healthy, Condon will likely play at High-A Spokane.
