Christian Bergman throws seven scoreless in first outing

Christian Bergman struck out five and allowed only two hits over seven scoreless innings in his first appearance of the season against the Rangers on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact

The Mariners got more than they could have asked for out of Bergman in his spot start. Unfortunately for him, there was no support from the offense. The Rangers didn't reach base until the fifth inning, and no runner made it past first base in Bergman's commanding performance.

Christian Bergman summoned to Seattle

Christian Bergman was called up by the Mariners from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.

Fantasy Impact

Bergman takes the place of right-hander Dan Altavilla, who was optioned in a corresponding move to the Rainiers on Monday. This will be Bergman's third trek with the Mariners this season, where he has posted a 4-4 record with a 4.91 ERA and 1.34 WHIP over 11 innings. Fantasy owners would be safe to take a pass on the 29-year-old right-hander.

Christian Bergman optioned to Triple-A

Christian Bergman was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.

Fantasy Impact

Bergman, who was recalled Saturday, made two relief appearances in his brief stint, allowing no runs, on two hits, three strikeouts and walking none over five complete innings against the Angels. The 29-year-old right-hander was sent down to Tacoma because of the lack of his availability the next few days. He his likely to be recalled again when the Mariner's need a fresh arm in the bullpen. In a corresponding move, the Mariners called-up rookie right-hander Thyago Vieira from Tacoma.

Christian Bergman recalled from Triple-A Tacoma

Christian Bergman was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma Saturday. He will be available to pitch tonight in a relief role.

Fantasy Impact

Bergman, who cleared waivers and was outrighted to Tacoma on August 4, could possibly start in the place of injured James Paxton later this week. In a corresponding move, the Mariners optioned Andrew Moore back down to Tacoma. Bergman (4-4) struggled in a starting role with the Mariners earlier this year, posting a 5.44 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 5.8 K/9, 2.7BB/9 and 2.1 HR/9 over 46.1 innings. Fantasy owners would be better served looking elsewhere for immediate pitching help.
