The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed Cole Sulser off waivers from the Marlins Wednesday.

Sulser posted a 5.29 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 39 appearances with the Marlins last season. The 32-year-old veteran will provide the Diamondbacks with a depth option in their bullpen heading into 2023.

As difficult as it is to believe, Sulser converted the first save for the Marlins since April 30 on Satuday. This was the second successful conversion for the 32-year-old righty on the season. With team saves leader Anthony Bender (back) on the IL, Sulser could be in line for more save chances moving forward.

With Anthony Bender getting a break on Thursday, Sulser filled in admirably. Bender has done well as the Marlins' closer in Dylan Floro's absence, but Sulser, with his strikeout upside and ability to limit home runs, would likely be next in line if neither Bender nor Floro could serve as the stopper. He's worth stashing in NL-only formats, but that's all.
