C - BOS
Connor Wong went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer against the Rangers on Friday evening. The blast was the first of his career. He also struck out once. Boston ultimately defeated Texas by a score of 9-1.
Wong was recalled from the minors on Thursday after tallying an 18-game on-base streak at Triple-A. In Worcester this season, he slashed .288/.349/.489 with 15 homers, 44 RBI, 27 walks, and 80 homers. He could be Boston's catcher of the future.
Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports the Red Sox are calling up catching prospect Connor Wong.
Kevin Plawecki is expected to land on the injured list, so Boston will turn to the youngster to back up Christian Vazquez for now. The 25-year-old hasn't hit that well in Triple-A this spring, but he was one of the prospects Boston received in the Mookie Betts trade. He isn't an add in fantasy right now, even in dynasty leagues.
Connor Wong hit a grand slam in Tuesday's Grapefruit League win over the Orioles.
The 23-year-old catcher put up a .541 slugging percentage in the minors last season. His power plays so he just needs to work on making more consistent contact. Wong was one of the prospects Boston got from the Dodgers in return for Mookie Betts. He is expected to begin the season in Double-A.
